Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.
Construction Updates
In April, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:


Area 1 West: Reston Avenue to Baron Cameron Avenue
  • Completed base and intermediate paving and construction of median curb between Reston Avenue and Utterback Store Road. 
  • Continued paving and median curb construction between Utterback Store Road and Baron Cameron Avenue.
  • Installation of storm sewer infrastructure continued.

Area 1 East: Baron Cameron Avenue to Carpers Farm Way
  • Completed drilling for noise barrier foundations along eastbound Route 7 between Baron Cameron Avenue and Delta Glen Court.
  • Completed post and panel installation for noise barriers along eastbound Route 7 on the east and west sides of Capital Church.
  • Completed footing installation for the north half of the pedestrian underpass at Colvin Run Mill Park.  
  • Continued storm sewer installation and pavement construction for Stage 3A between Baron Cameron Avenue and Colvin Forest Drive.


  • Grading and stone placement for temporary asphalt continued.
  • Starting paving at the Baron Cameron Avenue intersection and reconstructing the right-turn lane from westbound Route 7 to Springvale Road in preparation for upcoming traffic shift. 


  • Continued construction of the eastbound Route 7 bridge over Difficult Run, including girder installation.  


  • Continued storm sewer installation, earth-moving, and road construction activities in preparation for the upcoming opening of the displaced left-turn lane at Lewinsville Road.  
  • Completed post installation for the noise barrier along westbound Route 7 adjacent to Towlston Road and started panel installation.
  • Completed post and panel installation for the retaining wall along southbound Towlston Road on the north side of Route 7 and began backfilling the area behind the retaining wall.  
  • Completed the 48" storm pipe crossing beneath Route 7 on the east side of McLean Bible Church and continued new storm sewer installation.

Third-party utility design and relocation activities are also ongoing.

In Case You Missed It
Construction activities along Route 7 will continue in 2022, and additional traffic shifts and temporary detours will occur along Route 7. Please see the project website for information on upcoming lane shifts and other roadway impacts.
