Folk/Singer-Songwriter Concert
Turners Falls, MA

Live Concert of Folk/Singer-Songwriter Music at Unnameable Books
Saturday, May 4, 2024, 7pm
Free admission
Ramon & Jessica, offbeat folk-pop from Berlin and Montague
Mare Berger, Greenfield based singer-songwriter
Unnameable Books, 66 Avenue A, Turners Falls
On the evening of May 4, 2024, Unnameable Books will host a double-bill of local and touring singer-songwriters. Ramon & Jessica (Berlin and Montague) and Mare Berger (Greenfield) will present an intimate evening of songs and experimental folk-pop.
Opening the show will be Mare Berger, whose intricate melodies and captivating voice have often been compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell. Mare’s most recent album, Dreaming Blue is “A richly melodic ode to love, grief and nature, and it wears its Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom influences well …[the] deeply felt lyrics, sung in Berger’s gorgeous, soaring voice, combined with sophisticated, often awe-inspiring arrangements, make Dreaming Blue an instant classic that demands to be heard.” (Chris Ingalls, PopMatters) Mare had the honor of sharing the bill with artists such as Mos Def (Yasiin Bey), Hurray For the Riff Raff, Valerie June, and Margaret Glaspy, and was honored to play in the Broadway musical, Evita featuring Ricky Martin. More info at marielberger.com.
Closing the show will be Ramon & Jessica. Mainstays of the San Francisco music scene for over 15 years, R&J’s music has long been loved by listeners of all ages for its heart, whimsy, and creative spark. Known in “real life” as Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Dina Maccabee and local composer Jesse Olsen Bay, R&J incorporates sweet vocal harmonies, violin, guitar, ukulele, and toy instruments into a charming, offbeat tapestry of songs and sounds. R&J has released four albums of original songs, and even created an a cappella opera Roses Are Blue, based on an obscure children’s book by Gertrude Stein. Currently living on opposite sides of the globe, a live R&J performance is a rare occurrence! More at ramonandjessica.net.
Mare Berger and Ramon & Jessica perform on Saturday, May 4 from 7-9pm, at Unnameable Books in Turners Falls. For more information, contact Jesse Olsen Bay at (510) 387-0765 or tangledmusic@gmail.com.

Make Art at Main Street Studios
Fitchburg, MA
| |
Do you get inspired by fellow artists? Would the company of other creatives motivate you to work on an idea or abandoned project?
Come to Main Street Studios on Tuesday evenings. We have plenty of work space for you to set up with your writing, painting, knitting, etc.
We will socialize for a half hour-ish and then have a quiet hour or two to do the work. If you are inclined to share at the end of the evening - or the end of the summer, you are welcome to do so. But that is not required.
Main Street Studios has coffee/tea/water and maybe a few snacks. There are also options for delivery if you want to order dinner.
The point of this evening is to have fun and employ a little gentle peer pressure to kick aside those creative blocks. If you have any questions, send us a message or leave a comment in the event. You can also email studios@fitchburgculturalalliance.org.
