2021 ANNUAL REPORT
We are pleased to present our 2021 Annual Report: "Rooted in Legacy, Grown for Colorado." Inspired by the Catalan meaning of our name, "the Orchard," this year's report explores the roots of our legacy, and our dedication to growing our branches throughout the state of Colorado. PENROSE HERITAGE MUSEUM TO HOST 80TH ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE ON MAY 21, 2022
Please join us for a day of immersive fun at Penrose Heritage Museum in celebration of our 80-year anniversary. There will be a variety of family-friendly activities, including the chance to sit in an authentic 1890s carriage and a Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race car for the first time ever! Free parking onsite, light refreshments provided. 
NANCY RICHARDSON TO BE HONORED WITH JULIE PENROSE AWARD
Standing out among many deserving nominees, the Trustees’ Julie Penrose Award Committee selected entrepreneur and philanthropist Nancy Richardson to receive the 2022 Award. The Trustees recognize Nancy’s contributions and service in Northern Colorado and beyond, focused on promoting healthy economic development, community growth and education to empower youth. Nancy, alongside her husband Curt Richardson, founded Blue Ocean Enterprises, Otter Cares Foundation and the Richardson Foundation. Nancy will be honored in a ceremony on August 9.
NEW STAFF AT EL POMAR FOUNDATION
Stella Hodgkins will join El Pomar as Senior Vice President of Opportunity and Outreach on May 16, 2022, overseeing the Elevating Leadership Development program. Over the past 10 years, Stella served in the positions of Corporate Citizenship Manager and Sustainability Specialist at GE Johnson Holding Company. She has been an ELD participant for the past 15 years and served as co-chair of the ELD Asian Pacific Islander Advisory Council.
Shelby Pauka started as Program Manager of Regional Partnerships on May 2, 2022. Shelby was an El Pomar Intern from May through August 2017. She returned as a Fellow in the class of 2019 and departed El Pomar in May 2021. Since leaving the Fellowship, she has been working at Operation Homefront as Program Coordinator for Family Support Services serving Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.
Paula Nickodemus started as Staff Accountant on April 4, 2022.  Paula recently worked at Bethesda Associates as a Staff Accountant for the past five years and has extensive experience in accounting practices, accounts payable and bank reconciliation.

As the members of the Fellowship Class of 2020 wrap up their tenure at the Foundation, we want to thank them for their dedicated time and efforts to the communities of Colorado.

The departing class came to the Foundation with a breadth of different experiences, and in their next steps they will continue to make an impact on a range of sectors. We are incredibly proud of each of them as they pursue graduate and law degrees and head into roles in education, nonprofit management and government.
TIPS FOR APPLYING FOR AN EL POMAR COMPETITIVE GRANT
Most El Pomar grants are made through the competitive process to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits and government entities on a rolling basis. Several special funds are also available by application or invitation. Our Grants Department created this FAQ video to help make it easier.
FORUM FOR CIVIC ADVANCEMENT HOSTS "A CHANGING CITY"
El Pomar's Forum for Civic Advancement recently hosted an educational panel on the changing landscape of the city of Colorado Springs.
 
Elizabeth Garner, Colorado State Demographer, gave a keynote presentation on the demographic changes and outlook of the city, before joining a panel of local experts, moderated by Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC President and CEO, Johnna Reeder Kleymeyer, who discussed the implications of this data.
 
Panelists included: Tatiana Bailey, Ph.D., Executive Director of the UCCS Economic Forum; Tony Rosendo, CEO, Founder and Partner of Spur Philanthropy; Aikta Marcoulier, Executive Director, Pikes Peak Small Business Development Center; and Eric Phillips, Business Owner and Economic Development Specialist.

NONPROFIT EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM 4.0 APPLICATION OPEN
El Pomar is accepting applications to the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program 4.0, hosted by Center for Creative Leadership, through May 31, 2022. The program will take place August 23-26, 2022.
EL POMAR CEO KYLE HYBL TO BE HONORED BY CU BOARD OF REGENTS
The University of Colorado Board of Regents recently announced that Kyle Hybl is the recipient of an Honorary Degree, which recognizes outstanding achievement in one or more of the following areas: intellectual contributions, university service, philanthropy, and/or public service. He’ll be presented with the Regents’ highest honor, the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Congratulations, Kyle!

PIKES PEAK HERITAGE SERIES TO HOST EVENT ON TRAIL USAGE
El Pomar's Pikes Peak Heritage Series is gathering with local open space and outdoor recreation organizations on June 21, 2022 at Red Leg Brewing for a convening event on trail use and land stewardship.

Conversations will take place around the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our outdoor spaces and the ways we can get involved to care for and maintain the trails and lands we use and love. If you’re interested in hearing more about the event, please sign up for the mailing list below.

Safe Passage, which helps children facing abuse get the resources and help they need, recently opened and dedicated its new building.
