Installation of 2021/2022 Officers
AND a Happy Hour Cooking Demo
Tuesday, May 25, 4:00 pm, Zoom
Please join us on Zoom for Installation on Tuesday, May 25, at 4:00 pm. Along with installing our officers, we will have a Happy Hour Cooking Demonstration!

Our presenter will be Sarah Livingston, the Executive Director of Hillel at Ohio University. Sarah has a Masters in Canadian Jewish Food History from University of Toronto and Bachelor’s degrees in Russian Jewish History and Jewish Studies from The Ohio State University. She has more than a decade of experience in Jewish education as well as Jewish community building and development.

The demonstration will include Israeli-inspired hor d'oeuvres with which you might not be familiar: Mini Kofta, and both Meat and Vegetarian Sambusak, both with tahini dipping sauce. And you will love the cocktail! AKA, Sparkling Limonana. There will be time for questions and answers. This will be fun!

Here are the recipes for the demonstration for those of you who want to cook beforehand or afterwards! For questions or more information, call (657) 235-2511 or email programs@ncjwlongbeach.org.

None of the important work of NCJW – GLB & WOC is possible without your support. If you are able, please consider a donation in support of this event.
NCJW CA Lobby Day 2021
Wednesday, May 26, 9:00 am - noon, Zoom
NCJW CA is not going to let the continuing pandemic stand in the way of our advocacy for the issues and people we care about! In fact, advocacy this year is more important than ever, so we will be holding our second virtual NCJW CA Lobby Day on May 26, 9 am – 12 pm. Join us on behalf of the women, families, and children of California – no experience needed. Prior to May 26, there will be training on the issues and the process of advocacy. It’s fun, important, and you don’t even need to leave the comfort of your home.

NCJW CA Lobby Day 2021 will be held via Zoom. In the morning, the Executive Director of the legendary Equal Rights Advocates will talk about the remarkable coalition they lead, of which NCJW CA is a proud member, and you will hear speakers from organizations leading the fight in each of our issue areas. The do’s and don’ts of advocacy and how to be most effective in a virtual environment will also be discussed. Then, in the afternoon, members from each Section will “meet” (either via Zoom or telephone) with legislators and/or legislative staff from their districts. NCJW’s HugPacks – A Way to Give Youth Entering Foster Care a Hug!
Thursday, June 3, Three Shifts, Compton YouthBuild
If you are fully vaccinated and want to help support youth who are about to enter the foster care system with very little, if anything, to call their own, do we have a day of community service for you! On Thursday, June 3rd, NCJW will complete packings for 3-5th grade, middle school, and high school students at the Compton YouthBuild facility, 1108 N. Oleander Ave., Compton, CA 90222, about a 25 min. drive from Long Beach; there is no parking problem because they have a large lot. Come for one shift or stay for additional shifts – it’s up to you!

Shift one: 9:30 – 11:30 am 3rd - 5th grade

Shift two: 12:00 – 2:00 pm middle school

Shift three: 2:30 – 4:30 pm high school

Note that all precautions will be in place: gloves and masks (we will have some supplies on hand), temperatures taken, and release form signed, and we will fill the hugpacks in a ventilated, 5,000-square foot room. There is a half hour between shifts so that supplies for the next grade level can be appropriately placed on the tables, maintaining 6 feet of distancing. If you decide to stay for multiple shifts, please bring your own lunch; however, we will have on hand bottles of water and individually wrapped snack items. We welcome vaccinated volunteers only for one shift or more.

Please email Linda Fox at lindacfox43@gmail.com or call (562) 453-6755 to say you will volunteer or for more information. Let’s make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable youth!
