The tulips are blooming, the smell of sunscreen on children lingers, and the hummingbirds have arrived! Welcome back, summer! We sure did miss you. The warmer weather means spending more time outside, which in turn means welcoming back all of the Northwoods visitors, humans and animals alike. We at LOLA Arts are excited to bring back our summer Annual Events, which all have an emphasis on the arts in the outdoors. Whether it’s a free Plein Air Painting workshop, walking through the outdoor Sound Garden Exhibit, or listening to free live music during Make Music Day, we are all about bringing the arts outside to people of all ages in the Northwoods. We also have many indoor classes, so please check those out as well. Be sure to read through the entire newsletter to find out about upcoming events and classes. Cheers to summer!

LOLA Sound Garden Returns! Participate in workshops to create artwork that will be a part of the exhibit!
Once again, JG Everest, a composer based in the Twin Cities, will return to LOLA this summer and create a LOLA Sound Garden, a site-specific music and art installation that combines the sounds of the surrounding nature with 25+ small speakers, hidden in art objects, like flower pots or birdhouses, creating a trail through the woods, leading participants through different musical sounds in a relaxing, outdoor environment. View the artwork as you enjoy this reflective journey. All ages will enjoy this interactive walk through the woods. Free and open to the public Saturday June 18th 12-4pm, Monday June 20th 11-4pm, and Tuesday June 21st 11-3pm.
Want to help make Sound Garden even more special? Join one or all four of our workshops! These free workshops will include a walk through the Sound Garden space with a local DNR Naturalist, and then with the guidance of a local artist, participants will create a piece of photography, poetry, painting, or music to contribute to the Sound Garden. Work will get returned after the conclusion of Sound Garden the following week. All ages are welcome, though children should be accompanied by an adult. All workshops are free, but registration is required.
