Introducing Our 2025 Jacques Jenny Lecturer | |
Dear members, colleagues and friends,
For this newsletter, I would like to introduce your 2025 Jacques Jenny Lecturer, Prof. Dr. med. Yves Harder. Prof. Harder is currently the head of the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery department in Lugano, Switzerland. Yves is a plastic surgeon by training and has dedicated a large part of his career to reconstructive surgery, with a focus on micro-surgery for the lower extremity including lymphatic and orthoplastic surgery. He is the author of numerous publications including an AO textbook titled “Manual of Soft-Tissue Management in Orthopedic Trauma.” I met him during the AO international soft tissue initiative which is centered on the management of the soft tissue envelope in the context of orthopedic surgery and is designed to improve surgeons’ awareness and skills to improve outcomes, particularly in trauma cases.
For his VOS contribution, Prof. Harder will give us a series of lectures centered on the different aspects of soft tissue envelope management in the context of orthopedic trauma, something that may not always get the attention it deserves when an orthopod is focused on getting pieces of bone back together. Yves is very excited to present his work to our group and equally excited to see what VOS is about, and it will be our privilege to host him at our 2025 conference in Breckenridge, Colorado. Yves is also passionate about collaborations, and he will be open to discussing opportunities of cross-divisional research, so feel free to bring your ideas to him during the meeting.
Talking of collaborations, remember to start your project if you want a chance to get some additional funding to come to the 2025 VOS Conference. During the last newsletter, I introduced a one-off opportunity for a team of two surgeons in training to get free travel and lodging for one night at the 2025 VOS. Conditions to participate are simple: teams of 2 surgeons in training (at any point of their training), from 2 separate institutions (academic or not), submitting and presenting one research project (any species, clinical or not). Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. To the mentors out there, this may be a unique opportunity to bring your programs together and generate new project ideas or revive old ones.

Finally, remember that I dare you all to submit more abstracts than UF! I’ll push the chair of Awards to come up with something nice for the institution that produces the largest number of abstracts.
Enjoy the summer and talk to you again soon.
