New Inquiries

 

  • 9 May 2024 – Mr Lex Bramble – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that benzoylecgonine has been detected in the urine sample taken from IM ALRITE following its win in race 5, the PALMER FINAL (2040 metres) conducted at Parkes on Friday 23 February 2024.

 

The reserve portion and control solution have been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.

 

  • 10 May 2024 – Mr Paul Tonkin – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Tapentadol has been detected in the urine sample taken from LITTLE ARTY MISS following its win in race 3, the SUCCESS STUD PACE (1740 metres) conducted at Wagga on Friday 1 March 2024.

           

The reserve portion and control solution have been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.

 

  • 24 May 2024 – Mr Michael Carroll – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that harpagoside has been detected in post-race urine samples taken from the following horses:

 

BORROWED TIME following its win in Race 4 the HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY MICHAEL CARROLL PACE (1720 metres) at Dubbo on Friday 8 March 2024;

 

ART OF TERROR following its win in Race 1 the TAB VENUE MODE PACE (1609 metres) at Tamworth on Thursday 28 March 2024.

           

The reserve portions and control solutions have been confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.

 

  • 31 May 2024 – Mr Jack Trainor – HRNSW Stewards have commenced an investigation in relation to reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole has been detected in the following samples:

 

Pre-race blood sample taken from MANHATTAN NZ prior to race 2, the CONDELL PARK PRODUCE BABY BLING STAKES (1609 metres) conducted at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday 9 March 2024.

 

The ‘B’ sample will be sent for confirmation.

 

Post-race urine sample taken from MANHATTAN NZ following its win in that race.

 

The reserve portion and control solution will be sent for confirmation.

 

 

Inquiries Conducted

 

  • 21 May 2024– Mr Scott Wade – HRNSW Stewards concluded an Inquiry in relation to a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole was detected in the post-race urine sample taken from CHANGE OF MIND following its win in Race 6, the SKY RACING ACTIVE PACE (2125 metres) conducted at Penrith on Thursday 5 January 2023.

 

The reserve portion and control solution were confirmed by Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) in Victoria.

 

On 15 April 2024, Mr Wade pleaded guilty to a charge issued by HRNSW Stewards pursuant to Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 190 (1), (2) & (4).

 

Following an application from Mr Wade’s legal representative, the Inquiry was adjourned for written penalty submissions to be provided by 4pm on Monday 29 April 2024.

 

Following receipt of those penalty submissions, HRNSW Stewards gave consideration to the matter of penalty.

 

In relation to the charge, Mr Wade was disqualified for a period of 1 year and 10 months to commence immediately.

 

Acting under the provision of AHRR 195, the horse CHANGE OF MIND was disqualified from the abovementioned race.

 

Mr Wade has appealed the decision of the HRNSW Stewards.

 

 

Appeal Decisions

 

  • 2 May 2024 – Mrs Kerry Ann Morris appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to disqualify her for a period of 3 months after she pleaded guilty to charges issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4) following reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Levamisole was detected in the post-race urine samples taken from;

 

BLACK EDITION NZ following its win in race 8, the DFK CROSBIE PACE (1609 metres) conducted at Newcastle on Saturday 12 December 2020;

 

BLACK EDITION NZ following its win in race 1, the STAY SAFE, STAY HOME PACE (1720 metres) conducted at Penrith on Wednesday 30 December 2020.

 

By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel, the appeal was dismissed and the period of disqualification confirmed.

 

Mrs Morris has appealed the decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel.

 

  • 13 May 2024 - Mr Lleyton Green appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend his driver’s licence for a period of 21 days after he pleaded guilty to a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 163(1)(a)(iii) when driving the horse TWILIGHT HEAVEN in Race 3 at Penrith on Thursday 2 May 2024.

 

By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the appeal was dismissed and the period of suspension increased to 28 days after Mr Green had withdrawn his guilty plea on appeal.

 

  • 16 May 2024 - Mr Jack Callaghan appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend his driver’s licence for a period of 6 weeks after he was found guilty to a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 149(2) when driving the horse CORAL STRIDE in Race 4 at Newcastle on Friday 8 March 2024.

 

By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the appeal was upheld and the suspension set aside.

 

HRNSW Stewards have appealed this decision.

 

  • 22 May 2024 - Mr Anthony Schembri – HRNSW appealed the decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel to fine Mr Schembri $12,500 after Mr Schembri has appealed a decision of HRNSW Stewards to disqualify him for a period of 7 months after he pleaded guilty to four (4) charges issued pursuant to AHRR 190(1), (2) & (4). The charges were issued following reports from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that dobesilate was detected in the following samples;

 

Pre-race blood sample taken from the horse ON WHEELS prior to Race 1, the ANDREWS HAULAGE & STOCKFEEDS PACE (1900 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 29 January 2022;

 

Post-race blood sample taken from the horse KEAYANG BALBOA following its win in Race 1, the ANDREWS HAULAGE & STOCKFEEDS PACE (1900 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 29 January 2022;

 

Post-race blood sample taken from the horse KEAYANG BALBOA following its win in Race 1, the BROKEN HILL MUSICIANS CLUB PACE (2210 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 5 February 2022;

§ Post-race urine sample taken from the horse KEAYANG BALBOA following its win in Race 1, the BARRIER TRUTH PACE (2210 metres) conducted at Broken Hill on Saturday 26 March 2022;

 

By decision of the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal, the appeal was upheld and the remaining portion of the 7 months disqualification was reinstated.

 

  • 27 May 2024 – Ms Chloe Formosa appealed the decision of HRNSW Stewards to suspend her driver’s licence for a period of 21 days after she pleaded guilty to a charge issued pursuant to AHRR 149(2) when driving the horse MY CRACKLING ROSIE in Race 9 at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Tuesday 14 May 2024.

 

By decision of the NSW Harness Racing Appeal Panel the appeal was dismissed and the period of 21 days suspension confirmed.

 

 

Integrity Information

 

  • During the month of May 2024, HRNSW Integrity department obtainedm901 race day samples. As per normal HRNSW procedure all samples have been submitted for analysis.
