Thank You for Celebrating Earth Week | | |
|
|
Thank you to all the students, community members, Alumni, Alumni 360, and friends who joined the Alumni & Friends' third annual Foraging Tour as part of Chabot's Earth Week activities.
We had a blast exploring campus, smelling rosemary, tasting strawberries from a tree, encouraging the fig tree, and learning about foraging's deep roots in the African American and Native American communities from our expert guide, Blessing Morris. We look forward to hosting more tours in the future.

During Spring Break 2024, Chabot's HSI-STEM Grant, El Centro and MESA/TRiO-STEM sent 31 students on a Southern California College Tour!
The group visited Cal Poly Pomona, University of Southern California, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, CSU Long Beach, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Students were also able to visit Chicano Park in San Diego.
Students were excited to visit each campus, make new connections, and explore Southern California as an option for their higher education journey.

Chabot Speech and Debate Medals at Nationals
Story and photos courtesy of Jason Ames
| |
During Spring Break, Chabot College's Speech and Debate team competed at the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament in Sparks, Nevada. The tournament consisted of 50 Community Colleges and hundreds of students from around the country, and Chabot has a National Medalist!
Congratulations go to Brian Singer, National Bronze Medalist in Persuasive Speaking.
Also, congratulations go out to the rest of the National team: Destiny Riley (1 point away from advancing to the medal rounds in Impromptu Speaking) and Gunnar Cherry (2 points away from advancing in Extemporaneous Speaking).
Chabot was in the "small school entry" category. Overall, the team earned a National Silver Medal for Individual Events and a National Bronze Medal for Overall Sweepstakes.
Chabot's entire National team started off the year as "Novices," and all students were in their first year of collegiate competition. We also have one of the smallest budgets of the 50 schools at the National tournament. We are extremely proud of all the talent, hard work, and sacrifices made by the team.

The Gladiators had a very busy yet productive weekend on April 13-14, splitting the squad in the final regular season meet of the season. Athletes competed at a home meet under the lights at Chabot and at CSU Long Beach, Azusa Pacific.
Robert Stitts (El Cerrito HS) and Josh Shavies (Cal HS) had extraordinary days in the short sprints. Stitts takes the NorCal lead and the 2nd fastest time in college history with a blazing time of 10.34.
Sophomore Logan Phulps came away with a well deserved State A standard in the steeple chase with a time of 9:56.61, which is also the 3rd fastest time in Northern California.
At Azusa Pacific’s Bryan Clay Invitational, Daniel Trampe (Dublin HS) takes over the state lead in the 5K, breaking his own school record by 8 seconds and the 3rd fastest time by a California junior college athlete in the past 10 years with a time of 14:15.77. Also impressive, Dylan Baptista ran a 15:22 5K.
