This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program links to the newly released White House Toolkit for Sustainable and Healthy Schools, provides a final opportunity to register for the class in Kankakee, and promotes the upcoming Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations, "It IS Your Business," and Site Safety Security Assessment classes.

White House Toolkit For Sustainable and Healthy Schools

The newly released White House Toolkit for Sustainable and Healthy Schools: 2024 Update to Federal Resources to Address K-12 School Infrastructure Needs "provides an overview of the federal funds, programs, and other resources related to school infrastructure available to support state and local educational agencies and individual schools. School leaders can use this guide to identify sources of funding and technical support available from federal agencies to achieve important health and sustainability goals, including:
● Improved energy efficiency;
● School electrification;
● Clean energy use;
● Lower embodied carbon building materials;
● Improved indoor and outdoor air and water quality;
● Reduced exposure to environmental health hazards;
● Cleaner school transportation; and,
● Overall resiliency to climate change hazards."

Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations May 20-21 in Kankakee

This is the last chance to register for the Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations class on May 20-21, 2024, in Kankakee, IL. Class objectives include:

• Why it is important NOT to disregard information given to LEO or school officials.
• What the term "Leakage" means and how we can interpret the information.
• Learn free and open source online investigative tools into social networks and App generated phone numbers.
• Learn to identify and collect cyber evidence to identify suspects.
• Learn the three-step process in investigating internet crimes.
• Learn the importance of Preservation, Exigent Circumstances, and Search Warrants.
• Learn how to obtain IP's, screen names, screen captures, and email headers.

Upcoming Session of "It IS Your Business" in Decatur June 12th

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the "It IS Your Business": Grooming and Sexual Assault Awareness for K-12 Schools and Institutions of Higher Education class will be held June 12, 2024, in Decatur, IL.

"It IS Your Business" engages participants in learning about grooming and sexual assault so they have the knowledge to recognize behaviors and intervene when a situation may be arising. At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:
  • identify grooming as it is outlined in Faith's and Erin’s Law that now mandates training for all schools on such behaviors
  • understand the co-occurring nature of interpersonal violence crimes (i.e., sexual assault, stalking, domestic violence)
  • understand the elements of Title IX as it pertains to both K-12 schools and higher education
  • compare normal mentoring behaviors with classic predatory behaviors and recognize the difference between the two interactions
  • apply the knowledge they now have on grooming to implement better and more clear policies and procedures on the boundaries of professional conduct
  • evaluate situations where professional boundaries may have been crossed and feel more confident in their decisions to intervene with employees or students, as well as feel better prepared on how to support survivors

Upcoming Session of Site Safety Security Assessment in Mason City July 23rd

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce a session of the Site Safety Security Assessment class will be held July 23, 2024, in Mason City, IL. The training provides awareness resources and preparedness training to enhance organizational capacity to conduct multidisciplinary site assessments. The process of conducting a school site safety security assessment creates opportunities to reduce or eliminate potential hazards and develop recommendations for improvement.

2024 ILSROA School Safety Conference June 19-21 in Normal

The 2024 ILSROA School Safety Conference is being held June 19-21st in Normal, IL. The registration fee for the 3-day conference is $240, which includes all training materials, several meals, and a 1-year ILSROA membership. For school administrators and school district personnel, there is a 1-day pass for June 19th for $100, which includes all training for June 19th and lunch. Additionally, this year there is also a special, free pre-conference 8-hour session of Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations the day before the Conference begins (this is an optional add-on session being held at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois).
