Celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month with this hands-on program for all ages. Learn about the cultural values and symbols of diverse regions. Practice saying and writing simple words and phrases. Learn how to paint flowers and animals.

Join us for a French movie night! We'll watch the 2016 French animated film, Louise by the Shore (Louise en hiver) in the original French, with English subtitles. Elderly vacationer Louise spends the winter alone in a seaside resort town after missing the last train of the season. French learners can stick around afterward to discuss the movie in French.

Increase Cash Flow & Debt Management

In workshop 2 of this workshop series, we discuss cashflow and debt management. Cashflow is all about two things: 1) spending less and 2) making more. Learn how you can create the habits to pay yourself first, then learn about 20+ places where the money will come from to accomplish the task! Identify and utilize tangible resources to help you organize your finances and start to create a strategy for long term success. Start to identify where your money is going and begin to prioritize your assets and deprioritize your liabilities. Debt is one of those annoying things that many people liken to a leaky faucet that just won't stop running! Over time, the leak can increase and cause major problems. How can you stop this proverbial financial leak? You will learn some simple, yet very powerful strategies that you can use to eliminate debt faster without affecting your credit score or damaging your financial standing.

Chair Yoga

Join us for a monthly Chair Yoga class, designed for seniors but open to all 18 and up. Taught by Aditi Sharma, a certified RYT-200 instructor, this class is tailored to offer gentle, accessible yoga practices that promote mobility, flexibility, and well-being. No prior yoga experience is required, and all levels of fitness are welcome.

Join The Joy of Drawing in a supportive environment where people can share their love for drawing. The Joy of Drawing 'Intro to Drawing Workshop - Tree of Life' is based on The Joy of Drawing: A Beginner's Manual book. In this class we will draw together step-by-step starting with learning how to hold your pencil and ending with creating your own version of the Tree of Life.

The Joy of Drawing Inc, is a non-profit dedicated to bringing their books, workshops and classes to those in underserved communities, starting with the Bay area. Their current program is focused on delivering their workshops through local libraries and community centers.

Jobs for Youth Workshop: The Interview

South San Francisco Public Library is excited to partner with San Mateo County's Jobs for Youth program in offering a series of job-seeking workshops for teens!


Join us at our Grand Avenue Branch on May 15 for The Interview:


Succeed in the job interview! Learn the purpose of an interview and how to best prepare. Cover common questions you are likely to encounter, practice closing with a Passion Pitch, and discover and how to follow up effectively. Youth will be invited to participate in one or more of the following exercises:


  1. Interview Reflection
  2. Preparing for the Interview 
  3. Interview Questions  
  4. The Passion Pitch
  5. Interview Follow-Up


All young people between the ages of 14 and 21 are eligible to attend.


Jobs for Youth (JFY) is a County of San Mateo program that takes a holistic approach to serving the County’s youth, by encouraging them to seek careers and higher education that align with their own passions, providing one-on-one coaching & mentoring, and promoting long-term networking opportunities through the Jobs for Youth Alumni Association. Inner Life of a Cell
