Need to Know
Help Your Student in Their Online Learning
Dr. Lisa Meyers has put together a short video designed to help you continue to encourage and assist your child(ren) through these last few weeks of online learning. Click here to watch it!
Dr. Meyers has also included the slide presentation only, so you can reference back to it and/or save it for your personal reference.
Fourth Quarter Midterms
Fourth quarter midterms  have been  emailed  to each family  regardless  of the status of tuition accounts.  We think it is especially important that students have a clear understanding of their grades as they continue eLearning in the fourth quarter.
The email subject will be Fourth Quarter Midterms. If you do not see this email in your inbox, please check your SPAM folder before contacting Valley. If you do not have a current email on file, you may need to reach out to us.
If you do not receive an email, please contact Guidance Counselor  Mrs. Lindsay Mueller  for assistance.
Graduation Events Update
Seniors and Parent of Seniors: please watch your email for a short survey that will help finalize plans for graduation, prom and the recognition of senior honors.  Upon completion of the survey we will wait until May 15 for the latest directives from the governor's office and then the plans for these important events will be announced.
End of the Year Parent Information
Dr. Meyers has provided an End of the Year Parent Info sheet for you! This information was included in the April 27, 2020 Parent Newsletter, but it is included here again, in case you missed it.
Duclos Scholarship
The David and Bonnie Duclos Scholarship Committee is now taking applications for assistance to attend Valley Lutheran for the 2020-21 school year. Eligible students are those who are currently or will be attending Valley Lutheran next year, are members of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation, and a graduate of a Lutheran grade school. Please notify Dr. John Brandt at no later than May 15 if you are interested and eligible.
Guidance Corner
Once re-registration forms are received, Mrs. Mueller will be going over student course selections to verify that selections meet graduation requirements or are a fitting next step towards that goal. She will be reaching out to students and parents via email if there are any questions or red flags.

All seniors headed off to college need to request their Final Transcript to be sent to the institution where they will study next year. All final transcripts will be sent via PARCHMENT . You can use the Final Transcript Ordering Guide to walk you through the process. Also, you should change the email on your account to a personal email, as you will lose access to your school email account over the summer.

All seniors have been sent the link for their senior survey through Google Classroom. This is an important step to complete, as it is the only way we collect information for the graduation insert that lists college, major, and scholarship information for each student. The survey can be accessed online at . Please fill out only one survey. Changes and additions can be made by logging back in with your school email account or contacting Mrs. Mueller.

The CollegeBoard provides a great, free resource for students and their families to navigate the world of careers and colleges. Students can log into their CollegeBoard account, fill out surveys to link them to potential careers and colleges, and save favorite schools to compare and contrast. Check it out as a family at

The June national test date for the SAT has been officially cancelled. Registration for the 2020-21 SAT administrations will open the week of May 26. At that point, June registrants will be able to transfer their seat to a 2020-21 administration. All other students in the high school class of 2021 who don't have SAT scores will also have early access to register for the August, September, and October administrations. This includes students who had registered for March or May and had their registrations canceled and refunded. SAT is offering national exams every month from August to December 2020.

Michigan has also announced that they will be providing an SAT with Essay Exam during the school day in the fall to the Class of 2021. This will replace the same exam they were planning to take this past April as part of the MME.

Spring Academic Awards
Spring academic awards are given to students based on their cumulative GPA through the first semester. Sophomores with a 3.7 or higher cumulative GPA, as well as juniors and seniors with a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA receive an award. First time award recognition occurs though an academic letter which can be affixed to a jacket, displayed at a graduation party, etc. Second and third time award recognition occurs with a lamp of knowledge pin. Since students couldn't be together to receive their letter/pin, they will be handed out when the 6 ft. of distance mandate has been lifted. You can view the spring academic award list, too.
"I Do, I Do"
The VL Auction and Benefit Facebook page has announced the 2021 theme, "I Do, I Do."
We are putting on an '80's era wedding and would love to see wedding pictures of Valley family and friends posted to the VL Auction and Benefit Facebook page. Dust off those wedding party and group photos, tag participants, especially Valley alumni, and be entered to win two free tickets to the 2021 auction (worth at least $130). Don't forget to 'like' the Facebook page.  Everyone who 'likes' the page is entered into a gift card drawing at the 2021 auction.
If you have any questions, contact Lori Milroy at 989-412-3666.
An Inside Look
Recently, VL invited our parents to share "An Inside Look" with parents of students they would like to see be part of our school. This 5-part series takes an "inside look" at who we are, at what we value, at how we prepare students, and at how we serve families. If you missed it, if you are not a current VL parent, or if you did not open the link in the first round of emails, we'd still love for you to view and share it!  "An Inside Look" is on our website, please view it and share it as you see fit. Thank you for your help!
