Town launches street sweeping tracking map

As part of the Town of Oakville’s Digital Plan and to enhance customer experience, the Roads & Works department is launching a new Street Sweeping Tracking Map. This innovative tool allows residents to track the status of street sweeping in their neighborhoods.

The Roads & Works department oversees sweeping regional roads, main roads, 35 residential sweeping zones, and roads in the three Business Improvement Areas (BIAs). The tracking map provides real-time updates, showing which residential roads are in progress, not started, or have had their first or second sweep completed.

Updated at the end of each business day, the map aligns with the Works Operations street sweeping schedule:

  • Regional and town main roads are swept three times per year.
  • Residential roads are swept twice per year.
  • BIA roads are swept weekly from May to October.

Street sweeping begins in April and takes about eight to ten weeks to complete all roads and bike lanes. After the initial cleaning, sweeping continues throughout the summer until the end of the Loose Leaf Collection program.

2024 Priority Intergovernmental requests

In a strategic move to align Oakville's growth targets and community needs with higher levels of government, Town Council approved the 2024 Priority Intergovernmental Requests at their latest meeting. The Strategy, Policy, and Communications Department prepared an updated list, reflecting the town’s long-term vision and emerging issues.

Key Highlights:

  • New Requests: Inclusion of emissions review for small gas-powered equipment and implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Updated Requests: Aligning auto industry priorities with the Ontario Auto Mayors and adding automotive theft.
  • Removed Requests: Topics such as digital infrastructure and Greenbelt issues, which no longer need advocacy, have been omitted.

Since 2022, Oakville has adopted a systematic approach to streamline intergovernmental requests, ensuring they align with the town’s strategic priorities. This year's updates come ahead of key conferences, including the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in June and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) in August.
