Dear Members and Friends of the BABC,
I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying this beautiful spring season. I will be in my London office next week and am looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues across the transatlantic corridor. As I prepare for this trip, I am reminded of the strong ties between the Bay Area and the UK, and I have been pleased to hear about my colleagues’ keen interest in the latest Bay Area developments.
We have our upcoming Annual General Meeting on May 29, and I’m excited about the opportunity to catch up with many of you. It’s an important event for the BABC San Francisco community, providing us with a platform to exchange ideas and jointly shape our path forward. For BABC members, you will shortly be receiving your ballot to vote in your 2024-2026 Board of Directors. May I ask that you kindly complete the ballot (it takes one minute) and return it to our Executive Director, Jo Healey, by no later than Friday May 4th. Thank you and I hope to see you there!

Dear Members of the BABC,
Although the pomp and circumstance of the royal procession to Westminster Abbey feels like only yesterday, May 6th marked the one-year anniversary of the Coronation of HM King Charles II. It has been an incredibly eventful year since, and I am so proud of our work uplifting and building the US-UK relationship. I say it at the end of every letter, but it is worth saying again here: thank you for being an essential part of our community.
With several recent panels in AI, tech, and innovation, this past month has especially emphasised the value of hosting conversations between industry experts from both sides of the Atlantic. Two weeks ago, the UK’s Deputy Representative for the AI Safety Summit, Chris Jones visited and participated in a particularly substantive Stanford HAI discussion on the latest copy of the AI Safety Index report, which reiterated the importance of global cooperation in inherently global sectors like AI.
Continuing that momentum, this week we are looking towards two of the largest conferences in the Bay Area: SynBioBeta and RSA. As those of you in the industry know, SynBioBeta gathers engineering biology experts in Santa Clara to discuss industry advancements, and RSA does the same for cybersecurity.
As always, we aim to uplift British innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the conferences. At SynBioBeta, we are proud to accompany a delegation of UK organizations and facilitate their meetings with Silicon Valley experts and investors. This opportunity not only promotes the delegation’s work but also fosters relationships that will propel their mission to new heights.
For RSA, we are focused on gathering expertise from different sectors of the industry, hosting two panels explicating the coming trends in cybersecurity and what we as a global community can do to accommodate and regulate them. Especially with the industry’s projected growth – and projected labour shortage – we must continue holding space for these conversations and implementing their finds in policy.
So much of our work here at the Consulate revolves around reinforcing strong, resilient, and safe global industries, both by forging strong bonds between US and UK sectors and by creating space for wide-ranging global conversations. As we move towards London Tech Week and a busy spring, that message of global cooperation in fast-scaling industries remains a constant thread through all our work.

68th BABC Annual General Meeting 2024 | |

BABC members are invited to join us on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM (please note time change) for the 68th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BABC Northern California to vote in the 2024-2026 Board of Directors (ballots will be circulated in due course to members).
Only current and fully paid-up members are eligible to vote in the election of the Directors. If your dues are outstanding, please take a moment to pay them prior to sending in your ballot/proxy.
At the AGM, we will also reflect on the activities of the BABC Northern California over the past year and immediately following the formal proceedings, you will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with your fellow members!
At 6:00 pm, non-members are welcomed to join us and particularly those interested in joining the BABC Northern California.
