Did you know you are an expert? While you may seek professional development to regularly update your skills, NMASBHC knows that the majority of you have knowledge and wisdom to share with the rest of the school health field. So, I want to encourage all of you to consider responding to the call for presenters for the 2024 Head to Toe conference described below. The conference will be November 12, 13, and 14, 2024 in Albuquerque. While the SBHC Pre-Conference will be on November 12th, we encourage you all to attend the conference in its entirety to help refill your professional energy tanks! Save the dates, and this month, please embrace your teaching self and submit to present. We look forward to learning from you!

Call for Presenters - Due May 31, 2024

NMASBHC Youth Health Advisory Group | | |

The Youth Health Advisory Group supports youth to advance health care access for their peers, share expertise on health-related topics and give important youth voice to the field of school-based health care. Participants will engage in activities and projects that can provide critical input to the development and delivery of services, and advocate for SBHC services across the state.

NM Lions Operation KidSight &
SBHC Partnership Opportunity

New Mexico Lions Operation KidSight, Inc. is a 501c3 organization, working to establish and maintain a sustainable program to provide annual eye screenings and follow-up eye exams and treatment, if needed, for all young children in New Mexico. The program also is working with local and national partners to provide additional avenues to help youth and families increase access to eye exams and glasses.
NMASBHC is planning to partner with the program to increase access for students and families served by their SBHCs. If your SBHC is interested in participating in a program to provide free glasses to patients, please email Wilma at wilma@nmasbhc.org.

The 2022-2023 OSAH SBHC Annual Status Report is now available.
You can view it HERE.
This report and those from all previous years are posted on the NMASBHC website. On Primary Care Day, NMASBHC provided every state legislator with a copy of the report to educate them about the important work being done in the state's SBHCs.

Please note that it is very important to have your SBHC team up to date with eligibility determination. This an NMDOH-OSAH requirement. Many families may need support due to the COVID-era coverage winding down.

NM REC-1 has a contract with the NM Department of Health to provide CLIA Waivers to all schools that are conducting on-site health tests at no cost to the schools. The tests included are COVID, Influenza A&B, and pregnancy.

Telehealth & Reimbursment Resources | |

In partnership with ruralMED Revenue Cycle Resources, the Southwest Telehealth Resource Center recently published the 2024 editions of the Virtual Visit & Reimbursement Guides for Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico on its Billing Guides Resources webpage. These guides assist medical professionals in staying abreast of telehealth billing and coding changes for Medicare, Medicaid, and private payors.
The detailed state specific guides include details on virtual visit types, a payor matrix that indicates if reimbursement is allowable, conditional, or not allowable for 4 virtual visit types (E-Visit, Telehealth, Virtual Check-In, and Telephone), and payor specific guidelines.

An Update on Emergency Contraception
Thursday, June 6, 2024 - 12:00 - 1:00 PM MST (Zoom)
This session will review best practices and new developments in the provision of emergency contraception. Topics include dispelling myths, mechanisms of action, the role of BMI and weight, safety and side effects, and best practices. We will also discuss the resumption or initiation of hormonal contraception after the use of emergency contraception pills (ECP), the evidence supporting the advanced provision of ECP, and the use of the LNG-IUD for emergency contraception.
