MAY 2024 ~ NEWSLETTER

A Note from the Executive Director

I know that most of you have heard this news, but I have decided to retire at the end of June. My six years as Executive Director of the Malden Chamber of Commerce have been rewarding professionally and personally. In Malden, I witnessed the incredible strength, determination and pride of the business community. I was glad to support you all and to contribute to the vibrancy of this historic City. I made many friends, and had the good fortune to work with a dedicated and talented Board of Directors. The many partnerships I developed—with the City, residents, artists, civic groups, etc—enriched my experience at the Chamber. And, we will forever be connected by a worldwide pandemic from which we emerged stronger and more determined than ever.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Jordan Shapiro, Attorney with Shapiro Legal Group and Malden Chamber of Commerce Board Attorney will be inducted into the Malden High School Alumni Hall of Fame on Friday, May 3rd. Among his many accomplishments, Jordan is a practicing Malden attorney, editor of law books, and leader in many Malden community organizations.

Dennis Cataldo, owner of Cataldo Ambulance, is one of the honorees at the Cambridge Health Alliance Art of Healing Gala on June 20th. The Cataldo Family will be recognized with the Inaugural Partnership Award for their long term service to CHA and community.

Your Chamber of Commerce Has Been Busy!

In March, we learned a lot about Impactful Communications by Amanda Rock of Red Bow Productions. Over thirty members had the chance to practice thoughtful speaking and active listening. The event was hosted by Preotle and Lane at Rivers Edge.

In April, we started the month with another nationally recognized speaker, Jodi Smith of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting. Jodi led an active session, teaching us the nuances of Painless Networking.  The event was also hosted by Preotle and Lane at Rivers Edge.

Also in April, some of our members participated in a career panel hosted by the YWCA for the high school students in their program.  Our experts talked about many topics, ranging from health care to construction; from photography to real estate, all the while engaging the students with their non traditional career paths.

We wrapped up April with a Small Business Resource Fair featuring 17 state and quasi state agencies. Hosted by the City of Malden, the Malden Chamber of Commerce and the Wakefield Area Chamber in partnership with the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, more than one hundred businesses from 10 area Chambers made connections with state agencies. Following the Fair was a lunch at Evviva Tratorria with guest speakers Peter Milano of MOBD and Bob Nelson of the Small Business AdministrationBerkeley Investments generously allowed us to use the space at 200 Exchange Street for the Fair, and we were fortunate to have sponsors including Amazon Hub, Eastern Bank, The Savings Bank, Northern Bank, and Members Plus Credit Union.
