Connect with other parents and share the joys and challenges of parenting. Play and Grow is designed for parents/caregivers along with their babies and is facilitated by Help Me Grow Nurses and Perinatal Support-WA Resiliency Specialists. This one-hour drop-in group has songs, playtime with baby, and discussions on development, feeding, sleep, and other related topics. No registration is required!

Overdose Response
Everyone deserves to be safe and know how to keep the people they care about safe too. Find out how to recognize and effectively support someone experiencing an opioid overdose in a short online training for anyone age 16+. Ways to access free naloxone (AKA Narcan) are provided.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)
Suicide is one of the most preventable types of death, and we all have an important role to play. Like CPR, we can learn and practice skills that allow us to maintain a chain of survival. The proven steps of QPR - asking directly about suicide, persuading someone to accept help, and referring them to trusted resources – are taught in a short online course available to anyone age 16+.

American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Training
Learn lifesaving skills with our expert instructor! This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and other first-aid emergencies. Upon completion, a certificate that satisfies most OSHA-mandated job requirements, workplace, and other regulatory requirements will be issued (good for two years).

Adult Mental Health First Aid
Each May, we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month. By learning how to support people when they are experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, you can #BeThe1To make a positive difference for mental health in our community. Learn the five-step action plan for Mental Health First Aid in a convenient hybrid course. Work independently for two hours online and then learn from a certified instructor in-person at the Heartwood House on the hospital campus.

Introduction to CPR Training
If you care about your family and community, this class is for you! Designed for people who do not need a CPR certification card for work or school, this training teaches people to perform adult and infant CPR and first aid. Learn from an experienced trainer in a low-pressure setting. This course is open to anyone age 12 and up and provides the knowledge needed to respond to an emergency and help save a life.

Babysitter's Training Class
Young people interested in learning how to responsibly care for children and infants can take part in an American Red Cross course right here in Skagit. This engaging (and fun!) class is a mixture of learning and activities to boost knowledge and confidence while babysitting.

The event was an opportunity to recognize and honor key partners and individuals for their dedication to building a healthier Skagit County together. Youth Got This! Regional Youth Summit | |
Last month our Engaged Youth & Communities pillar hosted the Youth Got This! Summit at Camp Korey. Nearly 90 middle and high school students from nine schools gathered on April 17 for an impactful day focused on mental health, leadership development, fostering healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and drug and alcohol prevention. Ten group leaders and facilitator Solomon Masala led students as they stepped outside their comfort zones, practiced team building, and dove headfirst into what it means to lead and take care of themselves through life’s challenges. | |
After attending the youth summit:

92% of students reported they learned new ways to address and resolve conflicts.

- Sedro-Woolley opens May 22 and takes place every Wednesday from 3-7pm.
- Mount Vernon happens Saturdays 9am-2pm, starting May 18.
- Concrete Saturday Market is 10am-2pm, May 25th-September 7th, except August 17.
- Anacortes is open now and runs Saturdays, 9am – 2pm, through October.

There is still time to sign up for weekly farm boxes from Long Hearing Farm or Viva Farms! Both farms have sliding scale pricing and accept EBT as payment. Get delicious fresh organic produce to enjoy while supporting local agriculture. Sign up soon, as farm shares begin in June.
Tip: CSA boxes can be a great way to introduce children to new veggies! Try preparing them together -- kids are more likely to eat something they've made themselves.

WIC Nutrition Program Recognizes May Foster Care Month
| |
Did you know that foster children can participate in the WIC Nutrition Program? Foster parents and family caregivers can apply for WIC benefits on behalf of the children in their care. Foster infants and children can receive WIC benefits until they turn five years old. Foster teens who are pregnant are also eligible for WIC.
United General District 304 WIC has flexible hours, including Saturday, evening, and drop-in hours, and remote options for applicants in any category. We have three locations for in-person visits in Sedro Woolley, Concrete, and Stanwood.
