We Won a National Award!

2023 Program/Shelter Turnaround of the Year

We are excited to share with you that we have been awarded the 2023 DomesticShelters.org Purple Ribbon Award for Program/Shelter Turnaround of the Year!

This award is truly a testament to our staff's commitment to helping survivors achieve remarkable things on a daily basis and their constant drive to think boldly and creatively about how we can improve our services by making them more trauma-informed.

This award is also a recognition of the tremendous growth our agency has undergone over the last several years. It speaks to the intentional investment our Board of Directors made in employee wellness by instituting pay increases for all staff, implementing paid one-hour lunch breaks, and building professional development opportunities into every position.

If you're able, please plan to register for the Virtual Purple Ribbon Awards Celebration on Thursday, May 18th at 1pm PT / 4pm ET.

It's On Us Grant In Action

Partnering with Lafayette College's PAVE

We are excited to announce that we have been working collaboratively with Lafayette College's Peer Anti Violence Educators (PAVE) to implement the It’s on Us Grant. For those unfamiliar with this initiative, It's On Us PA is a statewide campaign that invites everyone to play a role in ending domestic violence and sexual assault.

It's On Us PA brings together college and university presidents, superintendents, administrators, teachers, students, families, and community members to reframe the conversation around domestic and sexual violence and pledge to be part of the solution.

"I really liked how interactive it was with the audience and how discussion-based it felt. There was a lot of new information and I enjoyed learning about it and thought the facilitator did great," Meghan Q., Class of 2024

"I thought it was an engaging presentation and connected a lot of information we have seen before to new information specific to the disabilities community," Carter S., Class of 2024

This presentation was our first in a series of educational activities that we will be bringing to Lafayette's campus this year, where we hope to address a variety of issues surrounding domestic and intimate partner abuse on college and university campuses.

We are very appreciative to have this partnership with Lafayette and look forward to our continued work to bring awareness, education, and services to all students and faculty throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Congratulations to Our Newest Directors!

Please join us in celebrating the recent promotions of Kenoa Askerneese and Leah Triber

Kenoa Askerneese, Director of Transitional Housing

"It's a blessing to step into this new role as Director of Transitioal Housing. I look forward to continuing to work towards achieving Turning Point's mission and supporting survivors along their individual journeys while also increasing our efforts to build landlord and community relationships. These relationships are vital as we expand our housing program and broaden our reach in supporting survivors in achieving their housing goals."

Leah Triber, Director of Advancement

"I am really excited to lead our resource development and communication efforts. Our advocacy and impact in the Lehigh Valley is an important story to tell and I am honored that I get to tell that story to our donor base and to the wider public. Our work is not only essential but truly transformative."

Donor Spotlight: Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem

Your Support Makes A Difference

A very special thank you to our friends at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bethlehem for inviting our team of Outreach Educators to come speak with your congregation about domestic and intimate partner abuse and our services. We had a lively conversation and met some wonderful individuals looking to make a real difference where they live.

This presentation serviced as the kick-off event to their donation drive for the month of May, which will benefit our Safe House. Their donation box is located inside near the front entrance. They are looking to collect new donations of everyday essentials, personal care products, and non-perishable foods.

What Would You Fill Your Affirmation Bag With?

"These Are Nice Words You Can Say to Yourself"

Things got a bit messy this past month as our kiddos at Safe House designed and decorated their very own "affirmation bags." In each bag, kids wrote notes of encouragement to themselves. In the words of one six-year-old, "these are nice words you can say to yourself."

At Turning Point, we understand the toll that domestic and intimate partner abuse can have on kids. How the words they hear around them or what was said to them can have a lasting impact on how they view themselves.

By deciding on what notes they wanted to put in their affirmation bags, this fun activity was a chance for them to know that they're always in control of how they view themselves, and that while words can hurt, they don't get to define us.
