May is Older Americans Month!
Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). In 2022, ACL will be focusing on aging in place – how older adults can plan to stay in their homes and live independently in their communities for as long as possible. This year's theme is Age My Way, an opportunity for all of us to explore the many ways older adults can remain in and be involved with their communities.

Age-Friendly Teaneck offering internship opportunity
People are living longer and populations are aging world-wide. The demand for professionals with expertise in the field is growing rapidly. 

Apply to a paid 4-week summer internship. Connect with professionals in the field of aging and tear down ageist stereotypes.

The Bright Side Family is seeking volunteers and participants for Senior Checks, its money management program for older residents in Bergen County who are in need of guidance and assistance in budgeting, routine bill paying, check writing and other financial tasks. Good News! Bergen County designated age-friendly county
Bergen County has joined Age-Friendly Teaneck in becoming a designated member of AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. Commissioner Chairwoman Tracy Zur said, “We’re proud of this designation, but we’re not done yet. We’ll continue to look for ways to make Bergen County more age friendly with every program and initiative we undertake.”

Teaneck's Social Worker to Lead a NEW class This Summer
Teaneck's social worker is planning a new discussion group - Healthy Body, Healthy Mind. The four-week program, to be held in July at the Rodda Center, will focus on the importance of staying physically and mentally fit through peer discussions about self-care, motivation, goal setting, healthy coping skills, etc.

The pandemic has taken a toll and continues to make life more stressful. This program will offer Teaneck residents the chance to share experiences and learn new coping skills.
