May  2020

Lake Superior State University announced that in addition to planning for face-to-face instruction for Fall 2020 they are also adjusting the academic calendar.  Instead of beginning classes on August 24th , instruction will commence on Monday, August 10th  and the semester will conclude prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.  As the administration analyzed plans for face-to-face instruction for the Fall semester, it became apparent that many of the safety considerations and protocols under consideration can be greatly enhanced if the university enables students to travel to campus early and complete the semester by Thanksgiving. Lake Huron's world-class Atlantic salmon fishery

Lake Superior State University faculty and students have been stocking 20,000 to 35,000 Atlantic salmon in the St. Mary's River annually since the late 1980s and have researched hatchery methods for successfully rearing the temperamental species. Read about how the Michigan Department of Natural Resources' Fisheries Division has adopted rearing methods used by LSSU  in stocking its Atlantic salmon in Lake Huron in this article shared with us by CFRE Hatchery Manager, Roger Greil '88.

We are extremely proud of how our students exhibited that "Laker resiliency" as they powered through the many challenges they faced in completing Spring Semester 2020. Equally impressive is the way the LSSU Faculty adapted immediately to on-line instruction and our staff helped make the student experience as comfortable and safe as possible.

Watch in the coming days for an exciting way Laker Alumni and Friends can also respond to assist our students as they continue to cope with the ramifications of this crisis.

Meanwhile, have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend... and as always Go Lakers!
