|
On Thursday, April 26th the Municipality of the County of Cumberland hosted their annual Volunteer Recognition Night. The evening celebrated the numerous volunteers throughout the county who spend countless hours working tirelessly within their communities. Also in attendance was the Municipal Volunteer of the Year, Barbara Aris, whom represented Cumberland County at the Annual Provincial Volunteer Awards ceremony in Halifax, NS on April 18th.
We would like to take this time to thank the volunteers recognized at this event, and also, ALL of the wonderful volunteers across Cumberland County for their dedicated work and community involvement.

The Sustainable Communities Marketing Officer position is responsible for providing leadership in managing marketing, promotion, public relations, and branding initiatives for the Cumberland Energy Authority. The objective of the Cumberland Energy Authority is to promote the development of renewable and alternative energy sources through investment and attraction within Cumberland County.
This position is also
responsible for
developing and implementing citizen and community engagement plans and programs for the Municipality of the County of Cumberland to ensure participative decision making, informed citizens and communities and that creates engagement as part of the Municipality's culture.
This position also provides
research support to the Municipality to enhance the decision making of Council, the Chief Administrative Officer, and the senior management team.

Low Income Application now available
The Municipality of Cumberland Income Exemption provides assistance to homeowners to help pay their residential property taxes. Qualified applicants will receive a credit which is applied directly to their tax account
To qualify:
- The ratepayer must own and occupy the assessed property as their principal residence
- Annual income from all sources for the 2017 calendar year for all household members must be equal to or less than $20, 803
- The Municipality requires a copy of the prior year's Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment for all household members prior to approving an application
The exemption value:
- When the total household income is less than $18,373 the exemption shall be $314.
- When the total household income is between $18,374 and $20,803 the exemption shall be $217.

Learn 2 Lead - Leadership Workshop Series 2018

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 Joggins will host the travelling exhibition, From Vimy to Juno: Canada in France 1914-1945
|
|
 |
|
From Vimy to Juno
explores the connections between Canadian experiences during the First and Second World Wars and provides an opportunity for visitors of all ages to learn about Canada's role in these conflicts. It also examines Canada's growth as a nation from 1914 to 1945.
Information panels, photographs and personal stories from Canadians who experienced the wars first-hand will be complemented by artefacts from the Joggins Legion and other Cumberland County military collections.
The exhibition will be available for viewing each day from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., May 2-12 at the Royal Canadian Joggins Legion Branch #4 , 21 School Street, Joggins, Nova Scotia. Legion members will be on hand to lead individuals and groups through the exhibition. From Vimy to Juno features age-related learning activities for students of all ages. Legion Secretary Dara Legere says: "We want to get the word out to as many schools as we can. This is something school kids should see." An opening reception will be held at the Joggins Legion on Wednesday, May 9, at 7:00 p.m.; everyone is invited to attend.
From Vimy to Juno
is co-sponsored by the Joggins Fossil Institute and is a national travelling exhibition created by the Juno Beach Centre in collaboration with the Vimy Foundation and the Department of Canadian Heritage.

The Department of Seniors is accepting grant applications under two categories:
1. Age-friendly Community planning:Support for consultation and community planning initiatives that result in robust action plans and facilitate the creation of Age-friendly Communities. These planning initiatives must be in partnership with local government and include consultations and engagement of older adults, the broader community, and key stakeholders throughout the entire process.
2. Community Projects:Collaborative, innovative projects to develop and implement programs, services, resources or events that support active, healthy living, help older adults to age 'well'-in place connected to community life and increase social interaction and community involvement among older adults (50+)

Enabling Accessibility Fund for mid-sized projects
The Government of Canada is currently accepting applications from eligible organizations interested in receiving contribution funding from the Enabling Accessibility Fund for mid-sized projects. Funding will support the construction, renovation and retrofit of accessible facilities or venues:

The Culture Innovation Fund invests in initiatives and projects carried out by organizations, partnerships, and collaborations working to use creativity and our diverse culture to address social issues and opportunities within communities.
The fund also supports initiatives intended to strengthen the role of Nova Scotia's museums and libraries.
When you submit your proposal to the Culture Innovation Fund, you will need to demonstrate how your project(s) will achieve any of the following:

Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for various duties related to development and maintenance of the Springhill Communities in Bloom Projects
- Responsibilities include: watering plants, driving lawn tractor, grass cutting, weeding/maintaining plants, storing/maintain equipment, special event set-up and take-down, painting, community clean-up and other duties as assigned
- Development of community green spaces and planning of future project
- Assist in park revitalization projects
- Required to supervise and work in collaboration with volunteers
- Development and implementation of fundraising events within the community
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Physical capacity for manual labour is required
- A positive attitude and effective communications skills
- Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision
- Experience with landscaping would be an asset
- Experience in special event planning and fundraising
- Experience working as a member of a team
- Class 5 license required
Requirements:
- must be between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive)
- A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person as defined by the immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
The job requires working outdoors in all summer weather conditions; working with heavy labour. Includes working with Communities in Bloom members and other community volunteers. The job can be physically demanding: it requires bending, lifting, driving lawn tractor, grass cutting, weeding, caring for plants, painting, storing/maintain equipment, special event set-up and take-down.
