As part of ongoing efforts to improve our infrastructure, the City of La Mesa is embarking on the Boulevard Drive and 69th Street Storm Improvement Capital Project. The project’s goal is to mitigate flood risks and enhance the safety of our community. We’d like to give a shout out to the 65 volunteers who joined us for a litter cleanup event in Downtown La Mesa and the Village on May 11. Here’s what our helpers were able to collect:
- Trash: 158 lbs.
- Recycling: 49 lbs.
- Grand total: 207 lbs.

In August 2023, a 22-year-old man was threatening to jump off a bridge. Citizen, Melinda Sheriff, intervened, engaging in conversation with the man. Spending nearly 10 minutes talking to him, she successfully persuaded him not to jump. Melinda was awarded the Police Chief’s Challenge coin for Compassion in recognition of her actions. | | |

During this month, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 282 in La Mesa is offering hand-made poppies, crafted by veterans themselves.
