Calling on Congress to codify the protections of Roe into law, restoring rights women relied on it for nearly 50 years.

Promising to veto a national abortion ban and affirming that, if given a Democratic Congress, they will restore the protections of Roe in federal law once and for all.

Conroe 2024 Municipal Election Run-off June 15th
The 2024 municipal races in Conroe, Texas, have hit a not-so-unique (lately) pause, as the city prepares for multiple runoff elections. The initial round of voting concluded without any clear winners, leading to a situation where the top two candidates in each race must once again vie for the public’s favor.
The Stalemate in Conroe’s Municipal Races
In the bustling city of Conroe, the races for three municipal offices are in a holding pattern. The recent election saw Todd Yancey and Duke Coon emerge as the leading contenders in the Mayoral race. The Council Place 1 race has Susan Johnson and David Hairel heading to a runoff, as well as Curt Maddux and Shana Arthur in the Council Place 2 race. None of the candidates secured more than 50% of the votes cast. The runoff election for all three races is set for Saturday, June 15th, 2024.
Runoff Rundown
The triple runoff directly results from closely contested elections where no candidate received more than 48% of the votes. These neck-and-neck finishes reflect the community’s divided support and the high stakes in leading one of Texas’s fastest-growing cities. Such stalemates exasperate the handling of real issues resulting from the unprecedented growth - most recently in the form of widespread flooding.
Community Impact, Voter Sentiment, and Looking Ahead
The delay has stirred conversations among residents, with many expressing eagerness for a resolution. As Conroe awaits the runoff, the city’s future hangs in the balance. The outcomes will determine the direction of policies and initiatives critical to the city’s development. With the candidates preparing for a showdown, the citizens of Conroe are poised to make decisions that will shape their community for years to come.
Information about the June 15th Runoff Election will be available soon at www.MontgomeryVotes.org.

IF YOU HAVEN’T, DO IT NOW!
Recent changes to the laws in Texas have made voting by mail more confusing for our voters. So, do not wait. You will not get a request for a ballot automatically in the mail anymore, even if you got one last year. You must request a ballot every year and now is a good time to request your mail-in ballot for the November Presidential election. It is still early but getting your request into our Montgomery County Elections administrator now cannot hurt!
Here is the official information from the Texas Secretary of State to make sure you are eligible to vote by mail and you can also find the information online at https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqabbm.shtml
To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:
- be 65 years or older;
- be sick or disabled;
- be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or
- be expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or
- be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.
To request an application for a Ballot by Mail, you may:
Go to our Montgomery County Election website at www.montgomeryvotes.org or do it the old-fashioned way and call them directly at (936) 539-7843.

MAY AND JUNE ARE OUR MONTHS FOR PLANNING
Your Party leaders typically spend the months of May and June planning for the next budget cycle, the next elections, training opportunities for precinct chairs, and getting out the vote; and that’s what they will be doing this year, too!
Only this year, they will be particularly planning for a transition from one County Chair to a new County Chair and from one slate of Precinct Chairs to another because of our recent Primary Elections. The new terms of office begin on June 17, 2024, and the organizational meeting for the new County Chair, including the election of new officers and the swearing in of all the new precinct chairs is planned for June 20, 2024.
So, watch this space and our other social media platforms for news on upcoming transition meetings. This is also an excellent time to volunteer to help the Party as we all gear up to meet our most important obligation—getting our Democratic voters to the polls in November!

BUILDING MOMENTUM!
The Texas State Democratic Convention is only weeks away and momentum continues to build!
The Texas State Party is now structured around United States Congressional Districts, as are most of the other forty-nine states. Our County is within two Congressional Districts. The Montgomery County Delegates that have been credentialed to attend the Convention will be participating in caucuses for Congressional District 2, being led by Mary Hamm and Congressional District 8 being led by Chris Powell and Angela Williams.
In preparation for the State Convention, each of our leaders held pre-convention caucuses in the month of April for the purpose of familiarizing the delegates with the events that are generally held at a convention. Mary Hamm’s Congressional District 2 meeting was held at Lone Star College Kingwood Campus and Chris Powell’s District 8 meeting was held virtually. Both were well attended.
Several candidates who are running for statewide party positions, positions on various committees at the convention itself, and for leadership positions within the State Democratic Executive Committee spoke at the April meetings. Mary Hamm and Chris Powell are each currently running to continue representing us at the Congressional District level.
If you are a delegate to the State Convention and need additional information about the event or any of the associated parties or banquets that are being held in El Paso, please email Mary Hamm at maryhamm@gmail.com or Chris Powell at mcdptxcc@gmail.com. They may also be able to put you in touch with other delegates who may be interested in car pooling or sharing lodging.
