Library Hosting STEM Career Night

We continue our program series with a STEM Career Night! Our panel of scientists will discuss their aspirations, journeys, and careers in STEM.


Learn about the many different careers that a background in science and engineering can lead to: college professor, entrepreneur, leader, inventor, mentor, researcher, CEO and more.


Followed by a Q&A. Recommended for young adults or older.

Intro to Drawing Workshop: The Tree of Life

A supportive environment where people can share their love for drawing. Based on The Joy of Drawing: A Beginner's Manual book


In this class we will draw together step-by-step, starting with learning how to hold your pencil, and ending with creating your own version of the Tree of Life.

The Joy of Drawing Inc, is a non-profit dedicated to bringing their books, workshops and classes to those in underserved communities, starting with the Bay area. Their current program is focused on delivering their workshops through local libraries and community centers

Spring Into Some Exciting Learning Opportunities ;)

Arts & crafts fun inside the makerspace!

Comic book artists present a reading of their comic art followed by a Q&A session.

In this class, patrons learned how to grow a variety of vegetables, herbs, and even fruits on a patio.

Asian Art Museum Presents: Art Across Asia


What constitutes a "masterpiece?" Why are some objects considered masterworks while others are relegated to lesser positions?


Explore some answers as illustrated by a few of the very best treasures of the Asian Art Museum. Fabulous statues, ancient bronzes, mystic jade, delicate ceramics, and evocative paintings – let them engulf you in their amazing beauty & workmanship. These are masterworks from the vast & varied regions we call Asia, which stretches from the Mediterranean to Pacific.


Zoom registration required for online viewing. No registration required if attending in-person.

SSF's Oyster Point Dragons


Learn about the history and basics of the sport of dragon boating in this presentation led by South San Francisco's Oyster Point Dragons (OPD).


Formed in 2012, OPD is the only dragon boat team ever to be based out of Oyster Point Marina. This paddling team consists of a diverse group of individuals, ages 13 to 78, including strong athletes, and cancer and heart attack survivors.

A monthly Chair Yoga class designed for seniors but open to all 18 and up.


Taught by Aditi Sharma, a certified RYT-200 instructor, this class is tailored to offer gentle, accessible yoga practices that promote mobility, flexibility, and well-being.


No prior yoga experience is required, and all levels of fitness are welcome.

Jobs for Youth Workshop: The Interview

South San Francisco Public Library is excited to partner with San Mateo County's Jobs for Youth program in offering a series of job-seeking workshops for teens!


Join us at our Grand Avenue Branch on May 15 for The Interview:


Succeed in the job interview! Learn the purpose of an interview and how to best prepare. Cover common questions you are likely to encounter, practice closing with a Passion Pitch, and discover and how to follow up effectively. Youth will be invited to participate in one or more of the following exercises:


  1. Interview Reflection
  2. Preparing for the Interview 
  3. Interview Questions  
  4. The Passion Pitch
  5. Interview Follow-Up


All young people between the ages of 14 and 21 are eligible to attend.


Jobs for Youth (JFY) is a County of San Mateo program that takes a holistic approach to serving the County’s youth, by encouraging them to seek careers and higher education that align with their own passions, providing one-on-one coaching & mentoring, and promoting long-term networking opportunities through the Jobs for Youth Alumni Association.
