A Pew Proposal - Accessibility in Worship

In consultation with the Worship and Music Team, Council, and staff, it has been proposed that we shorten two pews to provide two additional accessible seating options in our Sanctuary for people who use wheelchairs or walkers.

Currently, we only have one fully accessible spot for a wheelchair (front row, piano side). People who use walkers have to have their walker stored in the Narthex, taking away independence and mobility during worship. Additionally, with the only accessible spot is in the front row, It would show great hospitality to be able to give people a choice of where they would like to sit with accessible seating in other areas of the Sanctuary.

Cutting the pews would result in the loss of about 4-6 seats in pews. The accessible areas could either be used by a person using a wheelchair, or to keep a walker close by. If not needed for accessible seating, and if additional seating is needed in the Sanctuary, folding chairs could be made available to continue to make use of the space.

Questions? Concerns? Think it's a great idea?

We want to hear from you!

Deacon Katie and Pastor Matt will be available in the Fellowship Hall during the Faith Formation Hour (9:45-10:45) on Sunday, May 21 to talk about this possibility.

Or you can email Deacon Katie @ deaconkatie@stmarkslutheran.net

Living Lutheran - E-digest Signup

ELCA leadership has made the difficult decision to cease the print publication of Living Lutheran with the November/December 2023 issue. They will start transitioning the magazine into a full online storytelling engine at livinglutheran.org, providing a more economical and far-reaching approach to engage with a broader audience. This will include articles, videos, audio stories, podcasts, live events, a more robust social media presence, opportunities for user-generated content and more.

The class meets in the Library at 9:45 AM.

Over the next months this page will provide opportunities to learn the true history and current realities of Indigenous people. It is these truths, truths that have been ignored by most for hundreds of years, that will bring healing for both Indigenous people and non-Indigenous people...
