Maurilio Leon

May your life and example continue to be our inspiration

Rest in Peace to a beautiful soul, Maurilio Leon

On Friday February 23, 2024, our world lost a beautiful soul. Maurilio Leon, CEO of the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) passed away at the age of 48. He was a brilliant, passionate leader and affordable housing expert and advocate.

Richard Ybarra, CEO of MNC, said Maurilio is one of the best people I’ve ever met. We were becoming fast friends. At our February 8th two-hour lunch, seen in this photo, he greeted me asking, “You dressed up for me?” I replied, “They told me I was meeting a VIP.” So true.

We were on our fourth two-hour lunch, as we were growing closer as friends and colleagues. Our conversation went from doing projects together to using our partnership to become thought leaders in community and power dynamics. As we left we agreed two hours wasn’t enough time and that we had to meet more often. He offered to pay for lunch, but I beat him to it, saying he could pay next time... As are his family. friends and team, I am devastated. May your life and example continue to be our inspiration.

Rest in peace and power my friend… Hasta luego amigo…que en paz descanse."

Our New San Joaquin County Friends

Kimberly Morgan, Richard Ybarra, Natasha Zee, Cecilia Warren, Victoria Schneider, and Giana Philips enjoy a great conversation over lunch

MNC Inspiring Success recently started a friendship with Creative Childcare Inc. in San Joaquin County.  Richard Ybarra and Natasha Zee met with Executive Director Cecilia Warren, Giana Philips, Victoria Schneider, and Kimberly Morgan from CCI. They were visiting with Bay Area peers and invited MNC to lunch. Given commonalities, similar focus and lived situations, it turned into a three-hour lunch conversation! We were moved by their desire to make their time, love, and effort to providing additional services for the youth to better their community in Stockton. They were seeking equally passionate and like-minded people and organizations.

It was an unforgettable first impression to see Creative Childcare Inc. and MNC connecting and sharing the same drive and goals. We look forward to working with them more in the future. Thank you, Cecilia Warren, Giana Philips, Victoria Schneider, and Kimberly Morgan. Best of success!

Healthy Relations for Young Girls

MNC's first workshop at Francisco Middle School

Teaching the new Young Queens about Healthy and Unhealthy relationships

MNC’s Young Queens had our first workshop at Francisco Middle School with 15 youth! The topic discussed was Healthy and Unhealthy relationships. We defined what healthy and unhealthy relationships were, gave scenarios and were asked to choose if they were healthy or unhealthy. We also talked about consent, self-love, positive affirmations, and boundaries. Our students were eager to participate in our first meeting and are looking forward to the next one!

Music and performance accompany the ribbon cutting

Richard Ybarra and Jose Rodriguez attended and spoke at the Community Music Center (CMC) ribbon cutting event to celebrate the grand opening of its expanded main campus in the San Francisco Mission District. It was great to acknowledge the current partnership, and a history that includes CMC being birthed at MNC over 100 years ago. With great pride we congratulate CMC on the grand opening of the beautiful addition to their campus.

Thank you to CMC Executive Director, Julie Rulyak Steinburg and Board Chair, Debbie Chinn, for hosting such a special event to celebrate the history and growth of the Community Music Center!
