Have fun with us at National Night Out
Join us for National Night Out tomorrow! This annual community-building campaign is a nationwide effort that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. We invite you to stop by and hang out with us after work, along with the Marysville Fire District, community partner organizations and various vendors in Comeford Park for activities. We will have an informational booth for residents to ask questions about anything city-related, with representatives from the Community Development, Public Works, Parks and Executive departments. Come say hi!
State Avenue construction reaching completion
|
Take a section of a major state highway that's more than six miles long and intersected by other heavily traveled highways and arterial roads. Now give that old road a major upgrade to serve a growing city, widening it from two lanes to five and adding sidewalks, improving traffic signals and street lighting, moving utilities underground, landscaping and more. That's a huge undertaking and one that is nearly complete.
Paving and striping the newly widened section between 104th and 116th Streets NE are expected to wrap up this month, marking the final span of the State Avenue improvement project. Thanks to planning, perseverance and project phasing over the past two decades, it's now a state-of-the-art corridor stretching from Marysville's waterfront to Smokey Point. The state Transportation Improvement Board was a major funding partner in this years-long effort to improve capacity, safety and environmental stewardship along this busy corridor that serves more than 20,000 vehicles daily.
A special thank you to Senior Project Manager Pat Gruenhagen, Construction Inspector II Corey Watson, Public Works Operations and Water Operations staff for their work on this project.

Calling all City of Marysville employees, it is almost #CityHallSelfieDay and we need your help! Please include your name, job title, department and photo location. If you need photo help or have questions, email cgruen@marysvillewa.gov.
We are looking for participation from all departments and it will be fun to see submissions from our coworkers. We’ll share photos on the city’s social media channels on Friday, Aug. 16, aka #CityHallSelfieDay.

Welcome, Corrections Officer Valerie Feucht!
Mayor Jon Nehring swore in recently-hired Custody Officer Valerie Feucht in July. She comes from a family with deep roots in the corrections field and brings a wealth of experience from the Snohomish County Jail, spanning nearly five years. We are delighted to have you on the team, Officer Feucht!
Happy retirement, Rev. John Mason!
Chaplain & Rev. John Mason was honored at a July City Council meeting for retiring from our chaplaincy program. His public service journey began in 1994 when he volunteered as a Crisis Support Officer in Clallam County. His service continued in Marysville as a Pastor and Volunteer Chaplain, making significant contributions to our community including the co-founding of the Marysville Crisis Support Services (MACCS) 501C(3). We are deeply grateful for his dedication and service and wish him well in his retirement.
More townhouses on the way to Marysville
|
Single-family housing has historically been the main housing type in Marysville. In recent years, however, more multi-family housing and townhouses have been built here. Townhouses, which are single-family dwellings that are constructed in a row of at least three dwelling units with a front and backyard, are increasing in popularity. They provide an opportunity for Marysville residents to own a type of housing that is generally more affordable than detached single-family residences.
With the passage of Washington State House Bill 1110, we expect to see more townhouses and other middle housing types such as duplexes, triplexes and accessory dwelling units in the future.

Join the Annual Back to School Supplies Drive and help supply over 2000 local children with what they need for the upcoming school year! Your support matters. If you are able to contribute, here are three convenient ways to help:
✏️Drop off supplies: Visit the Civic Center (501 Delta Ave.) or the Community Center (1015 State Ave.) and place your donations in the designated barrels by Friday, Aug. 9. Your generosity will make a difference!
📱Order online: When you purchase items from the Amazon registry, they will be delivered directly to The Grove Church for distribution.
⏰Donate your time: From moving supplies and stuffing backpacks to distribution during the Back to School Bash, there are several opportunities to volunteer.

Help a child get ready for school
|
For many children, the first day of school is nothing to get excited about. For 30+ years, The Salvation Army has provided hundreds of local, at-risk children with clothing, school supplies and a backpack to start the year off right. And they need help in making that happen again this year.
Consider volunteering with KIRO 7 CARES and The Salvation Army at the annual Back to School Shopping at Old Navy event, Aug. 17 from 8-10 a.m. at the Marysville Old Navy (2615 172nd St NE)! Volunteers play a critical role in the success of this program by serving as chaperones to help the children shop.
- You will shop as a group, before the store is open to the public.
- The children generally know what they want. Chaperones help them find the correct sizes and make sure they spend the $150 that’s allotted per child.
Sign up to volunteer here.
Curious what this looks like? Check out this video from last year's event, featuring Communications Manager Connie Mennie and Chief Erik Scairpon.
