Solar Eclipse!

·The recent eclipse definitely eclipsed all STEM conversations for the past month! How did YOU celebrate? Our Executive Director, Phil Rogofsky, totally went to Cleveland to experience totality! He set up his viewing camp at The Oval in downtown Cleveland, surrounded by several museums and Case Western Reserve University. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History created a magnificent event. The Museum organized a variety of speakers, music, telescopes, food trucks, and plenty of STEM-related activities for all. The day started rainy, but the weather was perfect for an eclipse. Phil even met astronaut Mike Foreman & recorded a special podcast featuring several astronomy buffs discussing their eclipse experience. Hear this and all our podcasts by clicking here.

The Festival in Your Neighborhood!

Almost every month, we participate in several local STEM events. Here are the ones that hit our radar for April:

  • April 7th, we were live at the Navy League STEM Expo at the Gaylord National Harbor, leading STEM experiments and promoting our festival.
  • April 21st, we hit the 33rd Rockville Science Day at Montgomery College.

We are looking for events for May, so let us know what YOU’VE got!  We would love to promote it and, if possible, join you! Email us at mdstemfest@gmail.com

IMET Open House!

Have you ever wondered what is in that interesting building next to the National Aquarium in Baltimore? It’s the Institute for Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), where they research oceanography and aquaculture. They’re inviting people to come explore with an open house this Saturday, May 4th from 1 pm to 4 pm. In honor of Star Wars Day, May 4th, we’ll be there with our friend Jason Charlton AND his working life-size R2D2. For more information, click here.

The Orioles STEM Festival Night!

Join the Maryland STEM Festival and fourteen other STEM organizations, including NASA and Morgan State University, for an evening of STEM and Baseball Fun. We’ll be in the picnic area when the gates open at 5 p.m. until the first pitch at 6:35 p.m. Click here for tickets and details.

Middle School Professional Match Program!

More than 30 STEM professionals will participate in our Middle School Match Program starting May 13th. This is the third time we have had this event, and the teachers, students, and professionals are looking forward to it. We will do it again on November 8th, National STEM Day. Details from the event will be on our website.
Student STEM Ambassadors Needed!

The Maryland STEM Festival has an Ambassador program for middle and high school students to help promote the Festival and STEM in general. Dozens of participants from around Maryland have participated in the program. They enjoy and spoke well of the program. More information on the program and how to become an Ambassador is here
