Mariposa Mary Rose
Butterflies are so pretty and delicate; they represent a peaceful free and easy kind of vibe. When the Rolling Stones wanted to establish their Peace and Love credentials in 1969, they chose to release thousands of butterflies into Hyde Park all over the audience during their legendary concert. Here Mary Rose’s butterfly has landed on the handle of a Daisy Mug and become frozen in time as the perfect tribute to a lazy summer’s day, just the kind of day you want your cup of tea to remind you of when you’re deep in February.
Now Where did I put my Swizzle Sticks?
A beguiling variation on the vase theme. Mary Rose has made these Tall Slim vessels as utensil holders with a particular eye to storing your Cocktail Stirrers….think about it, where would they go otherwise? Down the side of the cutlery drawer next to a few birthday cake candles? It’s not a good idea, they need to be like the SAS, ready in the blocks for that sudden national emergency….the day you need a cocktail.
Mary Rose Through the Looking Glass
While we were all decorating our living rooms in the days leading up to Christmas with little Santas, Elves or Wise Men in a Sports Car, Mary Rose was making one of her Magical Mirrors. It’s the perfect piece if you’re passionate about Re-Wilding. As if nature was taking over an abandoned house, multicoloured flowers have smothered a staid old mirror turning it into something vibrant and alive. This model was 3ft by 2ft; they are available on demand.
Hurdy Gurdy Vase
If you stare at Swirls design for long enough you’ll leave the real world and enter a psychedelic garden where all is colour and happiness! This yellow design wasn’t the first of the many colours Mary Rose has used for swirls design, but there’s something about this Small Fat Vase that really grabs one’s attention. Could it be the time of year? We’re so ready for spring we need to see yellow?
Anyone for a Whisky Daisy?
A gold and white Punch Bowl with daisies and roses growing out of the rim. Daisies in the UK are usually white with yellow centres and you’ll be astonished to see that there are some flowers on this bowl that are exactly the same colour that you’d find in nature… Whatever next? However reality gives way to fantasy on the rest of this show stopping piece and all of Mary Rose’s skill and balance come perfectly into play with languorous gold stripes sweeping down the sides, contrasting with the busy little coloured dots within. This piece likes to sit in the park, Cornelia Park in Phoenix to be exact.
A Heart of Gold
You might ask what leopards and butterflies have to do with each other? Are butterflies like those little birds that pick a crocodile’s teeth perhaps? Nooo what they have in common is how pretty they both are, and so it’s they who get chosen by Mary Rose to really make a statement. You’ll never see no Warthog studded vase in Gerbil design for example. These butterfly studded Baby and Tiny Heart Vases really catch the eye with their perfect balance of gold and black and bright crazy colour.
The Easter Parade
This year Easter Sunday is March 31st meaning it's only a little over 5 weeks away. So it's definitely the right time to be considering Mary Rose's beautiful selection of these Harbingers of Spring. When we were young our mother disapproved of "shop bought chocolate Easter Eggs" and we had to make do with a papier mache hollow egg each that she deigned to fill with sweets when the great day came. How we craved the commercial products she hated, and it's ironic that now Mary Rose has re-worked our mother's cardboard shells into a thing of wonder. Her eggs are happy and elegant and have so much character that they could almost be alive. Easter is to celebrate and these symbols reflect that. Click here to see a few examples
