It was a low volume trade day, with many on the other side of the border taking an extended July 4th holiday. Grains and soybeans closed higher to finish the week. For the week Dec corn futures were up 3.25 cents, Nov soybean futures were up 25.75 cents, and Sept wheat futures up 1/4 of a cent. In the lower trending market it was nice to see a week with some gains. Dry weather in the Black Sea region is giving wheat some support to finish the week. Weekly US export sales were on the low end of expectations for corn and soybeans at, 14.06 mil bu and 8.4 mil bu. Wheat export sales were high end of expectations at 29.59 mil bu. Although corn and soybeans were below expectations, the amount was higher than the weekly avg needed (3.84 mil for corn, and 6.03 for soybeans) to reach the USDA's current estimate for the crop year, with 9 weeks left in the crop year calendar. |
