March 2019 News Break
Portage Area Chamber of Commerce
|
|
As a part of St. Mary's School celebrating Catholic Schools Week in February, classes visited and gave thanks to businesses and departments that make a difference in the community. The Portage Chamber was fortunate to have teacher Carol Austin's 3rd Grade class drop by the office.
Before assembling for a group photo, the students were asked to name their favorite thing about Portage. Without hesitation, the students enthusiastically answered: "Splash Pad!...Skate Park!...Surgeons Quarters!...Sunset Park (followed by other favorite parks)!...I can walk to my friend's house!...It's my HOME!"
It was so refreshing to see our city through youngsters who clearly appreciate what it provides them. We are grateful to the 3rd Graders and Ms. Austin for the gift basket and taking time out of their busy day to greet us.

Now that the work has been completed on the emission reduction systems at Alliant Energy’s Columbia Energy Center
, some analysis of the key economic impacts from the project has been revealed.
As a result of Alliant Energy’s $1 billion investment in Columbia County, roughly 2,816 jobs were created with a total labor income of $131,769,103. The local taxes generated based on the 2,816 new jobs equals $3,111,302 (local taxes include employee compensation, tax on production and imports, households, and corporations).
The total state and local taxes generated from Alliant Energy’s investment equals $8,983,626. The new jobs were contractors working on these projects, Wisconsin Power & Light (WPL) did not increase the number of employees based at Columbia.
