Meet Braylon (Little) and Jacob (Big)!
Braylon, a 6th grader at Elm Park Elementary School, loves football and Xbox. Initially waiting for a Big in our community program, Braylon's family discovered our site program at his school, and he was switched over by one of our Match Support Specialsts. That's when Jacob, who is a Senior at WPI majoring in mechanical engineering, stepped in as his Big.

Jacob and Braylon share a passion for football, making them a perfect match. While they currently enjoy board games, conversations, and using the gym during their match meetings, they're eagerly awaiting warmer weather to play football outside. Although this school year marks the end of their official match meetings due to Jacob's upcoming graduation, they both plan to stay in touch. Jacob is excited to continue supporting Braylon's football interest by providing tips and confidence boosters.

Fitchburg Program Launch
We recently launched a mentorship program in Fitchburg, pairing college students from Fitchburg State University with students at McKay Elementary School. The program, aimed at providing valuable mentorship and support, began this month and was inaugurated with a ceremony on Feb. 27 attended by Mayor Sam Squailia, Fitchburg Public Schools Superintendent Jon Thompson, United Way representatives, and many others. Thompson praised the partnership as crucial for supporting the city's youth, emphasizing the program's role in shaping futures and fostering dreams.

|
The program's mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that empower youth in the Framingham community. The first match between a Big and a Little, 20-year-old FSU sophomore Olivia Goines and 9-year-old McKay fourth grader Akeelah Robinson, took place recently. We are currently seeking more FSU students to join the program, as there are currently 16 Littles on the waitlist.
Fitchburg officials and representatives expressed excitement for the program's potential impact, with Connie Askin (BBBSCM CEO) highlighting the benefits of mentoring for children's confidence, social skills, and mental health. We plan to expand our presence in Fitchburg and hope to extend programs to other public and private schools in and around the city.
