March 2024

Did you know that this is one of the busiest times of year for the Columbus Area United Way board? Why? We're glad you asked! Board members spend this time meeting with every partner agency and every direct program to determine the financial allocations for 2024!

We're so grateful for the time, energy, and thoughtfulness they put into this process and we all work together for the improved health, financial stability, and education of our community!

Mental Health Matters

Janet has retired! We (already) miss her so much, but we're so excited for her newfound freedom! Here are some fun things to know about her:

What was your very first job, and how old were you when you started?

I worked at the Columbus Kentucky Fried Chicken. I started the day after my 16th birthday.

What were some of the highlights of working at UW?

Working with the amazing, caring staff here is the best highlight.

Through working here, I was able to meet several amazing people that work with other non-profit organizations across our service area. My favorite part of the job was working with our area school nurses, counselors and staff as part of the Student Health Program.

What are you most excited for in retirement?

More grandkid-time and family time, golfing, fishing, atv-riding, swimming, walking, reading, drinking my morning coffee on the front porch. I plan to visit the Columbus Family Y several times a week.

Will you still set your alarm for your first day of no work?

No. I am looking forward to no alarm on most mornings!

(Psssst if you're curious about what this means for the CAUW team, you should know that we're hiring! Take a look 👇👇)
