It's time for our annual Evaluation meetings that will take place in members' homes on March 8. Thi is always an important time to get feedback about our organization, and we love hearing ideas and possibilities from our entire membership. Our Strategic Planning Chairman,
Helen Taufa'asau, has done a terrific job of compiling last year's ideas into an Action Plan that shows how we addressed those ideas. This year, to add something new, you'll receive a one-page background document in advance, to set the stage for a great discussion. We've had good response to offering speakers at our Monthly meetings.
Cathy Young provided a very professional presentation on Fitness and Healthy Aging, along with a Tai Chi demonstration. Thanks also to her two sidekicks,

We are having a lot of interest from ALH members to attend the National Conference in San Francisco from Sept 17 to 21, 2017. The early bird Registration fee of $475 will be paid for up to 8 ALH members. Our Education Chairman, Cathy Young, is keeping the official list, so contact Cathy if you want to attend the conference. Have you seen the great new window display at the Thrift Shop? Diann King has designed a window that highlights Assistance League of Hawaii and all our wonderful programs. Our annual Strategic Planning meetings will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. The purpose for Strategic Planning is to ensure we are on track with ALH's mission and goals. We valued the input last year in identifying the best methods for achieving our goals and where we need to focus our energy and resources. Charlee Martin. Charlee was born in Hawaii, but has lived in New York and Washington, with a career in textile design. She has returned to Hawaii and is anxious to be part of our organization and get involved with our programs. Students at Mountain View Elementary School on the Big Island have the opportunity to touch and observe our Operation Wildlife animal artifacts after the Endangered Species Presentation, with Gerri Migita looking on.
|
OWL members Andrea Cyriacks, Miho Teipel, Marge Fabre, and Anne Ranaldo
went to Kauai February 20th through the 24th. They visited 10 schools and gave 17 presentations. On February 27 we will be at the Honolulu Zoo doing a security refresh, to keep all of us safe when working at the zoo. March 4 is Conservation Day and we will display some of our artifacts at the zoo.

Along with the water bottles
Melanie Wogan purchased for Youth Outreach, she also delivered 50 travel size deodorants to them.
We are very excited that we were able to help another young adult in the Imua Kakou program. This program helps young adults who are aging out of Foster Care and going into independent living.
Pat Dixon purchased bedding, pillows, linens, pots, pans, dishes, utensils, a mop, broom and many cleaning supplies to get them started. Mahalo Pat.
Our 4th Lullaby packing will be on Friday, March 3rd at 9:00 a.m. at my home. It's always fun seeing all the tiny onesies. Everyone is welcome.

Enough - We need only enough!
Your Program chairmen recently met for the budget process that takes place in Finance Committee meetings. I am happy to report that there are no budget problems with any Program. The main challenge our Program Chairmen face is finding enough reliable volunteers to make the good we do in the community a reality.
Operation School Bell has been increasing the In-Store Shopping events each year. These events require a lot of helpers - check-in, runners, check-out, cash register coordinators - at least twenty helpers each time. This is also one of the most rewarding events for our volunteers, as we see first-hand how happy and proud these keiki are with new school clothes in their bags.
Operation Wildlife takes its message about animal preservation to Neighbor Island and local schools, where the keiki are hungry for the program and its message. This is not a junket; it is a busy and intense job that also has its rewards in the contact with the students and teachers who enjoy this experience.
Tutu Tutorial can never have enough one-on-one tutors to meet the demand of the schools. We Care needs help assembling layettes, delivering bears and items to shelters and Youth Outreach, and shoppers. Share is helped by those who work upstairs sorting our donations and by those who deliver unsaleable items to the Institute for Human Services, River of Life, and the Lion's Club.
Any Program chair will welcome your participation. Even if you can help only once, that matters. Please find time this year to do enough. That is all we need. Enough.

If you have not been upstairs at the Shop recently, you are in for a surprise. A great "Operation Reorganization", under the leadership of
Diann King, has taken place. There is still more to do, but it is a welcome improvement so far. If you have difficulty locating something, just ask. Many thanks to
Diann King, Patti Schulz, Margie Van Swearingen, Debbie Muirhead, Andrea Cyriacks and others who worked so hard on this. As always, we need your help upstairs. Please sign up for cashier work downstairs as much as you can. Several members prefer to work half days, and that has been working well.
