The Alameda County Arts Commission leads efforts to advance the arts through programs, partnerships, and the community-building initiatives such as CREATE Alameda County. The Arts Commission partners with the major state-level arts agencies Californians for the Arts, CREATE CA, and California Arts Council. This collective work at the local level and throughout the state encourages racial equity, uplifts our community, and changes our lives for the better. Everyone is encouraged to join in the celebration!

Arts Education Month
Join Create CA this March by celebrating the value of arts education and strengthening the commitment to making it available to all students! Share and educate your network about the long-lasting impact arts education has on students with the Create CA March toolkit.
Wed, March 15, 12:00-1:30pm
This webinar, led by Californians for the Arts staff, will go over how you can participate in ACCM 2023 to build the collective voice for the arts in preparation for engaging with the 23-24 California legislative session.
Wed, March 22, 12:00-1:30pm
Learn how to engage your state legislators to support state arts policies. The workshop will focus on budget asks, talking points and share tips and resources for effective advocacy.

Celebrate the 5th Annual California Arts, Culture and Creativity Month throughout April. This statewide celebration of arts, culture and creativity first established by the California legislature in 2019. This year's activities will continue to expand upon Californians for the Arts' successful programs that engage arts advocates across the state and raise awareness of the impact of the arts within communities of all sizes through events, resources, and advocacy opportunities. Tues, April 4
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will proclaim April as Arts, Culture and Creativity Month in Alameda County. You can watch the proclamation on the County's live streaming broadcast. The proclamation will be presented during the Board of Supervisors public meeting with an estimated start time of 11 am. More information here.

Mon, April 17
Community members are invited to join Californians for the Arts and Create CA for the inaugural CA Arts & Culture Summit on April 17 in Sacramento! Tickets on sale now. The Summit will unite arts and civic leaders through events filled with knowledge-sharing, coalition building, and movement visioning.
Tues, April 18
Participants will have an opportunity to engage with State Leaders to support state arts policies.
Week of May 1 – 5
Participate in Alameda County Arts Advocacy Week by joining Virtual Legislative Meetings on Zoom. This will be an opportunity to meet with State-level Elected Officials to support the arts locally. Sign-up for a Virtual Legislative Meeting led by the Alameda County Arts Commission here.

Poetry Out Loud Winner
|
|
|
Poetry Out Loud is an annual program open to all County high schools. This national poetry recitation contest helps students practice public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary creative expression. This year the County Poetry Out Loud competition was conducted by video submission. Lana Tariq (pictured), a student from Pleasanton, is the winner of the Alameda County Poetry Out Loud competition. Lana will represent Alameda County in the California State Poetry Out Loud competition conducted by video submission in March.

Each year, the Alameda County Arts Commission invites County residents to submit nominations for the Alameda County Arts Leadership Awards. This annual program enables the Alameda County Arts Commission to recognize five individuals, one from each of the five districts of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, for their outstanding achievements and contributions impacting the arts community and the residents of Alameda County. The Office of the Arts Commission is proud to be a division of the County’s Auditor-Controller/Clerk-Recorder Agency led by elected official Melissa Wilk. The support and leadership provided by Melissa Wilk is critical to the work of the Arts Commission. The Auditor-Controller/Clerk-Recorder Agency has an extensive leadership role with the County government and the Arts Commission.
