| Let's Pump Up the Power! (and get a deal :)
You want to be part of the kind of organization that has Mary, Pam, and others we've spotlighted as members. But how many women's organizations can claim a 40 year history of making a difference for Women Business Owners - not just in Minnesota, but nation-wide? NAWBO makes a difference. And the more of us there are, the more difference we can make!
Let's pump up the power ladies! March is NAWBO's first national membership drive - and in honor of 40 years - also the first time we've offered a new member incentive. If you are a member, tell other WBOs that - only in March - they can get a $50 discount! If you're not a member, it's time to join. That'll be just the beginning of the rewards!

MEET MARY QUIST-NEWINS
President, Certified Financial Planner
Comprehensive Financial Planning & Wealth Management
www.moneyweave.com
NAWBO-MN - Public Policy Committee Member
"Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort."
Helen Gurley Brown
With more than 23 years of experience in financial services,
Mary Quist-Newins is passionate about helping women become more financially secure. She is a professor and nationally recognized expert in comprehensive financial planning and wealth management - with a specialty in how women relate to these topics. We women bring strengths - and sometimes face challenges - in our relationship to money. Mary understands those issues!
Mary started her career in finance
at American Express (now Ameriprise). Promoted from Advanced financial Planner to Corporate Marketing Director, she moved on to ING (now VOYA) for a position as region vice president and compliance officer. She left ING to return to individual financial planning - her real passion - at Thrivent.
Then, in order to better serve clients - without pressure from an employer to sell particular investment or insurance products - Mary went independent and founded
Moneyweave, LLC
.
"Moneyweave" describes the crisscrossing threads in the fabric of an individual or family's financial situation. When Moneyweave does a financial plan, they do a comprehensive assessment of your whole financial picture - each thread - to help you make intelligent, informed decisions on the kinds of actions you can take, and products you can choose, to help you reach your goals. Moneyweave works for you.
Besides running Moneyweave, Mary teaches Certified Financial Planner courses at The University of St. Thomas. She also previously founded the Center for Women and Financial Services at The American College - where she still serves as adjunct professor. She has published a textbook and articles in USA Today, Wall Street Journal, ABC News, The Daily Beast, Consumer Reports, Journal of Financial Planning, Financial Planning Magazine and American Express Open Forum. She holds masters degrees in business administration (MBA) and finance (MSFS), and advanced designations as Chartered Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter.
Mary founded Moneyweave when she returned to the twin cities with her husband. She is happy to be back in Minnesota. Yes," even in winter," she says! She loves the lifestyle, outdoor activities and hanging with her husband, two children and three dogs.
Among her awards, Mary was the 2014 recipient of the NAWBO-MN "Innovation in Finance" Award. She views NAWBO as the most influential, high-performing organization for female entrepreneurs. She now serves on the NAWBO-MN Public Policy committee - which works to influence Minnesota legislative agendas to better support female entrepreneurism.

MEET PAM BARLEY
Sourcing Director, Plant Services
Cargill, Incorporated
NAWBO-MN Board Member - Events Committee
Pam Barley wanted to be an architect - until she discovered that working as an architect on a daily basis didn't have that much to do with designing beautiful houses! But in a way, she did turn out to be an architect. Pam uses her position at Cargill to build relationships that support the things she believes in - like supplier diversity.
Pam grew up on a farm in Iowa as the oldest of five children - and the first in her family to attend a four-year college. She switched from her major in architecture to business and, in a class called Managing Information Systems (MIS), found her career. During college, Pam landed two internships with Cargill that turned into a permanent position upon graduation.
She started at Cargill in Network Provisioning (the alchemy that goes on behind the scenes when a company interfaces its computer systems to the telecom providers). She moved from there into Systems Management (UNIX) and then into IT Research on products for Shared Services (selecting, negotiating and managing projects to design technology solutions to meet business unit needs). From there it was a logical step into global sourcing for IT software and services. Just about when she was considering getting a little bored with IT, an opportunity opened in sourcing for Plant Services for Cargill's North American locations, including facility and contractor services.
And here's where it gets interesting for Women Business Owners and NAWBO members. As part of her sourcing role, she has an opportunity to work with women and minority owned businesses and to help them grow their business with Cargill.
An example of where she has made a real difference for a woman business owner comes from how she structured the requirements for Cargill's "integrated facilities management" service provider. When she selected ABM as Cargill's national provider, she directed ABM to leverage Cargill's relationship with Plunkett's Pest Control (a woman-owned business headquartered in Minnesota). But even better than that, she asked ABM to encourage other companies ABM services besides Cargill, to use Plunkett's. That's building an impressive structure, no?
On the personal side, Pam and her husband Matt, have "two beautiful boys" - Avery (6 ) and Quinn (4). "Our boys keep us busy with their never-ending energy and love of life. We enjoy outings to the Minnesota Children's Museum and the Minnesota Zoo as well as 'date night' at Biaggi's. We also enjoy swimming, running, cooking, reading, and traveling."
About NAWBO-MN she says, "I am enjoying my role as a Board Member of NAWBO-MN and on the Events Committee - whose mission is to ensure women business owners have access to education, peers and support to guide them through scalability, stability and succession. We have planned many wonderful events for 2015 - including this month's - and Cargill is
thrilled to host the NAWBO-MN Hall of Fame! Hope to meet you at an Event!"
"In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way, and in that I learn from him"
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
