March News on the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project

Issue 46 | March 2023

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Construction Updates

In February, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:

Area 1: Reston Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive (Except Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection)

Continued construction of the shared-use paths along Route 7.

Area 2: Baron Cameron Intersection

Constructed the curb for the eastbound Route 7 turn lane to Baron Cameron Avenue.
Continued construction of the improvements on Baron Cameron Avenue between Route 7 and Hunter Gate Way.

Area 3: Difficult Run Area (Colvin Forest Drive to Faulkner Drive)

Completed construction of the backwalls of the bridge abutments.
Began forming the bridge deck and installing the deck rebar for the new Difficult Run bridge on westbound Route 7.
Continued storm sewer installation between the east end of Colvin Run Road and Difficult Run, and between Difficult Run and Faulkner Drive.

Area 4: Faulkner Drive to Jarrett Valley Drive

Continued noise barrier foundation drilling along eastbound Route 7 between Trap Road and Jill's House.
Continued noise barrier post installation between Andrew Chapel Cemetery and Jill's House.
Continued construction of the retaining walls and noise barrier along westbound Route 7 between Forestville Drive and Trotting Horse Lane.
Completed construction of the retaining wall along eastbound Route 7 near Serenity Woods Lane.
Continued excavation for the stormwater management pond on the west side of McLean Bible Church.
Grading, placement of cement-treated aggregate, and base asphalt paving was completed along eastbound Route 7 between Serenity Woods Lane and Atwood Road.

Third-party utility design and relocation activities are also ongoing.

Work Continues Along Route 7

Construction activities will continue along Route 7 through the spring and summer months. Please see the project website for information on upcoming lane shifts and other roadway impacts.
