2021 Studentship Recipient

Project Title: “Identification of ITGA5 as a novel immunotherapeutic target against treatment refractory medulloblastoma”

Exploration of differentially expressed genes on MYC-driven Group 3 medulloblastomas in comparison to normal tissue through time and therapy have yielded promising novel targets that are tumor-specific with little to no expression in normal cells.

Amit Singnurkar

2020 Feature Grant Recipient

Project Title: “Mapping of Essential Amino Acid Metabolism for the Detection of Glioblastoma Multiforme Spread in Post-Surgical Patients”

In this study, we will use positron emission tomography (PET) to image amino acid receptors that are known to be expressed by GB tumour tissue. Using artificial intelligence techniques, will develop a methodology to detect occult diseases on current imaging techniques using high performance computing methods to map the total extent of tumour tissue.

2021 Richard Motyka Research Fellowship Recipient

Project Title: “Improving Precision Medicine for Pediatriac Glioma”

Pediatric brain tumors have had major advances over the past decade in our (1) understanding of the underlying biology and (2) in developing specific treatments that address the vulnerabilities in a given tumor type. In particular drugs that harness the immune system to fight tumors, as well as those that target specific growth pathways that feed tumor growth, have had major impacts on the survival of some tumors.

2021 Research Grant Recipient

Project Title: “Pediatric Bithalamic Glioma: A comprehensive clinical, radiological, pathological and molecular characterization”

Thalamic tumours account for 5% of brain tumours in children and most often include unilateral gliomas. Bithalamic gliomas represent an exceptionally rare subset of thalamic tumours which are poorly understood due to the limited number of reports in the literature. The outcomes of patients diagnosed with bithalammic tumors remains unclear and there is no consensus on the optimal treatment for these patients.
