Member receives Carpenters Helping Hands donation after house burns
Local 1554 member Brandon Smith was presented with a check from the UBC's Carpenters Helping Hands program, along with more donations from his fellow local members, after his house burned and displaced him, his wife and their two children. Watch a video of the presentation below.
Construction continues
on Tennessee Training Center
Construction of the Mid-South Carpenters Regional Council Training Trust Fund's new training facility in Tennessee continues to go well, with the PEMB (Pre-Engineered Metal Building) steel erection currently underway. Read the latest update on the building here.

Local 1263 member Dewayne Harper shared this photo of the sunset creating a nice backdrop for millwrights' installation of new dryers and hoppers at Cargill's plant in Gainesville, GA.
Member presented with 15-year service pin
Local 216 Business Representative Donnie Newton recently presented millwright Jack Lindstrom with his 15-year service pin. Thanks to Jack for his years of hard work with the SSMRC.
Member spotlight
Local 1192 member Andrew Sims has been a member of the SSMRC for nearly 20 years and a field superintendent for nearly a decade, and his commitment to safety for his fellow millwrights has led to recognitions from Atlantic Plant Maintenance. Read more about Andrew here.
Visitors to Houston area can receive discount on work wear
Millwrights in Local 2232, or those who are traveling to the area for work, can receive a discount on work wear purchased at FR Depot, located at 714 Center St Deer Park, TX.
Members will be required to show proof of membership to receive the discount, and anyone traveling from out of the area should tell the store they are traveling to work in Local 2232's jurisdiction.

U.S. adds 687,000 jobs in February, unemployment drops to less than 4%
February’s jobs report exceeded expectations: A total of 678,000 jobs were added to the economy, and the unemployment rate fell to 3.8%. Job growth was widespread, with notable gains in leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, health care, and construction. The economy has averaged a monthly gain of 582,000 jobs added over the past three months.
Women’s History Month and the labor movement’s role in narrowing
the gender pay gap
The U.S. Department of Labor shared a blog post this week highlighting the labor movement's and unions' roles in narrowing the gender pay gap throughout the nation's history and into the present. Read the DOL's report here.
