Professional Learning for Adult Education & Family Literacy Staff

Below you will find a list of upcoming courses that are now available for enrollment in the PD Portal. For more information about any of these courses, please visit the  PD Portal,   open the course catalog, and review the syllabus. If you are interested in enrolling in a course, please consult with your in-house professional development specialist (IHPDS) to determine if the course meets your professional learning goals.

Online Course Beginning in March

Using and Scoring ACIRI  - course runs March 15 - April 15; enroll by March 22 to complete the course by April 15.
Face-to-Face Course in March

BEST Plus 2.0 Scoring Refresher, Literacy Pittsburgh
  • Face-to face training on March 27, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., enroll by March 20.
  • Participants will need to bring their BEST Plus 2.0 Test Administrator Manual to the session.
Online Courses Beginning in April

Contextualizing Instruction Using Career Goals and Local Labor Market Information  - starts April 3, enroll by March 30.

Using Labor Market Data Analysis for Program Planning - starts April 15, enroll by April 10.

eData Courses  - enroll by April 3.
  • Introduction to eData v2 for Adult Education - starts April 7.
  • Introduction to eData v2 for Family Literacy - starts April 14. Please note that participants who are new to the eData system should also register for Introduction to eData v2 for Adult Education.
Online Course Beginning in May

Working With English Language Learners: The Role of Formative Assessment  - starts May 1, enroll by April 30.
  • Prior to participating in this course, participants need at least one of the following: 1) to have completed the ESL Basics course in the PD Portal, and/or 2) to have a certificate or degree in TESOL or a related field, and/or 3) to have more than 3 years’ experience teaching English language learners in an adult education setting.

Introduction to the Foundation Skills Framework
Enroll anytime and have 30 days from the enrollment date to complete the course.

PA CASAS Training
Enroll anytime and have 45 days from the enrollment date to complete the course.
As you plan when to enroll in the course, please remember that a trained assessor will need to observe you administering three distinct CASAS tests within the 45-day course period.

PA TABE 11&12 Training
Enroll anytime and have 45 days from the enrollment date to complete the course.

Staff Induction Verification Course
New staff members who are participating in the staff induction process enroll in this course after they have completed the required activities. Administrators can review the staff induction process by downloading the 2019-20 Staff Induction Implementation Guide.

Staff Induction Module Courses
This series of modules was designed for new agency staff members as part of a customizable on-boarding process. Existing staff may also choose to complete these modules at any time.

Tutor Training Module Courses
These modules cover the foundational skills needed by volunteers working in adult education programs. The eight modules serve as a component of volunteer tutor and classroom aide training and can be completed at any time.
