Win Flights to Montreal at the Oil Barons Game

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA) will be at the President's Club Sponsor Night for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons Game this Saturday (March 4). It's the game where the Oil Barons Dream Home Lottery winners are announced.

To add to the action, FMAA is hosting a "Plane Toss" fundraising contest for the Wood Buffalo Royals, FMMHA's inclusive non-competitive hockey program. FMAA Team Members will be at a registration table selling foam planes by donation for guests to toss onto the ice during intermission. The closest plane to reach the center will win non-stop flights for two to Montreal with Air Canada.

YMM Achieves Second Milestone in

Global Airport Carbon Accreditation Program

The Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) successfully attained Level 2 ‘Reduction’ certification from Airports Council International (ACI) – World’s Global Airport Carbon Accreditation Program. There are currently 11 accredited airports at Level 2 ‘Reduction’ in North America.

“As an ambitious industry, airports are doing their part to be good partners by promoting sustainability and environmentally responsible practices,” said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “I applaud the Fort McMurray International Airport for its work under the Airport Carbon Accreditation program to lower its carbon footprint. I look forward to supporting their growth in the program as North American airports set our industry on a path toward continued success in innovation and sustainability.”

Employee Spotlight on Brianard Vibora

With only two months into 2023, Brainard Vibora of Executive Flight Centre Developments is hitting many milestones in his life and career. On February 14, he celebrated his second work anniversary as the company’s Regional Facility Maintenance Supervisor of Northern Alberta. “This is my first time working at an airport, but I love it here. Everyone feels like they know each other. We are like family.” Vibora also received his Canadian citizenship on January 18.

Residing from Manila in the Philippines, he’s called Alberta home for ten years and spent the last two years living in Fort McMurray with his family. Looking ahead, he’s excited about warmer weather. “I love the outdoors in our community. Spring here is nice, and I enjoy walking on the trails to go berry picking with my wife and children.”

New Crane Equipment Installed at YMM

Through a joint effort between FMAA Facilities and Maintenance teams, an under-running single girder crane is now on location inside the FMAA maintenance garage. Made locally by Alberta Overhead Crane Company, the crane was installed last week to help optimize workflow for maintenance.

“We’ve never had this equipment before and would have to call a third party to assist. This new addition to our garage will allow us to maintain and service our equipment in a timely manner,” said Adam Lo Bianco, Manager of Facilities and Terminal Operations. The crane can lift 7,000 lbs., almost equivalent to the weight of two pickup trucks.

The Local Hero Foundation's annual Big Island Luau fundraiser is coming back to the community on May 6 at the Shell Place Grand Ballroom. The highly-anticipated event has been on halt since the pandemic, and organizers are excited to welcome everyone back for an evening of entertainment to help support its live-saving organization. Tickets are on sale now at www.localherofoundation.com, and sponsorship opportunities are available at team@ymmhero.com.
