Dear Houston LGBT,

As we finish up the first quarter, it’s been a whirlwind at the Chamber from events, programming, announcements and more. And…there is so much more coming up and ways to get engaged in the months ahead! Check out this issue of the Chamber Connection for all the latest updates!

Speaking of announcements…did you catch the recent announcement about the launch of the Chamber’s LGBTQ+ Young Professionals group with LAMBDA NextGen becoming part of the Chamber? And even more news with the announcement of the 2022 Volunteer of the Year. Plus, congratulations are in order for some of our very own who are Houston Business Journal Diversity in Business Awards Honorees! Read further to learn more about all of these announcements.

The Chamber Office Open House was a huge success. We are thrilled to have new space in Sesh Coworking. Did you know Chamber Members get complimentary access to Sesh Coworking once a month? Yep! Another benefit to support our members.

Advocacy…it’s a key part of the work of the Chamber as we advocate for our members. We hosted our Day at the Capital last month and participated in the All In For Equality Advocacy Day this month. With the Legislative Session in full swing, we are seeing an unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ+ bills being actively moved in the Texas legislature, including in the House. We are on the ground in Austin with Chamber Leadership engaged, testifying and working with the Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce and other LGBTQ+ organizations to combat these attacks on the LGBTQ+ community. I encourage you to be active and make your voice head with your elected officials. Read more in this issue about how you can take action.

With Pride,

Tammi Wallace (she/her/hers)

Co-Founder and President & CEO

Get engaged with the Chamber! The Chamber is active all year long! With a full calendar of events and other opportunities, it’s a great engagement opportunity and brand visibility for your business. Want to join in the fun? Become an individual member of the Chamber and tap into great professional networking!

Take Action!

The Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce has been active during this legislative session advocating for our members in Austin.

Take action using the Digital Advocacy Toolkit to send a message to your elected officials that anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is Bad for Business. The action alert highlight this month is the Drag Art Bans. These bills along with other anti-LGBTQ+ bills are bad for business. Take action using the Digital Advocacy Toolkit.

Advocacy Update

During the 88th Legislative Session, the Texas LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce worked with State Rep. Jessica González to file HB 2182 which would add LGBTQ+ owned businesses to the State of Texas HUB Program.

Thank you to State Representative Jessica González for your leadership!

LAMBDA NextGen Now Part of the Chamber!

Supporting LGBTQ+ Young Professionals

Did you catch the recent announcement about LAMBDA NextGen? We are excited to relaunch the group as part of the Chamber programming and support LGBTQ+ Young Professionals across the region.

LAMBDA NextGen is Houston's first young professionals networking group, ages 21-35, focused on bringing LGBTQ+ professionals together to build a strong connection in an ever-changing community.

LAMBDA NextGen launched in 2013 as a social networking group in Houston to bring LGBTQ+ Young Professionals together to connect, mingle, and strengthen roots within the local community. The initial event grew from 35 people to over 300+ and LAMBDA NextGen leadership is working with the Chamber to reengage this impactful program and connect LGBTQ+ Young Professionals!

With LAMBDA NextGen officially becoming a program of the Chamber, this opens up even more opportunities to continue building on the important work of the former organization to continue helping LGBTQ+ Young Professionals in the greater Houston region thrive and succeed.
