Good Afternoon St. Stephen Families,

When we hear the word Lent, we may typically think of fish fries, meatless Fridays, Stations of the Cross, and giving up something. But Lent is something more. Yesterday we received ashes. They are a sign of where we come from but also a call to repentance and serve as a reminder that we are destined for glory with Christ. Lent is a time to prepare us for Easter and a renewal of our baptismal promises. It is a time when we pray, fast, and give as we await the new life of the Resurrection.  This year, not only think about what you can fast from, but also what you can feast on to bring you closer to Christ. The prayer for today in the Magnificat Lenten Companion is "Merciful Father, as I live the discipline of Lent, help me each day to entrust myself more fully to you." Entrust yourself to the Lord as you journey on the road to the Resurrection and may God Bless you.

Peace,

Linda Umoh

MUSTANG SPORTS
GIRLS JV BASKETBALL:  The girl's JV basketball team finished the season with a win beating St Lawrence, 12-7. The Mustangs were led in scoring by Angelia D and Karly L with 4 points each and Amelia B and Anelisse S with 2 points each. Great job Mustangs! Thank you to Coach Burroughs and McAleavey for coaching and mentoring the team this season.

BOYS FLAG FOOTBALL:  The boys flag football team finished the season with back-to-back losses to St Lawrence. The Mustangs lost to St Lawrence 27-0 to finish the regular season then lost to them 26-0 in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Alex V had an interception for the defense in the quarterfinal loss.

Boys basketball tryouts are next week. Any boy in 5th-8th grade interested in trying out must be signed up to try out by Monday. Boys JV basketball tryouts are Wednesday, March 9 from 3:00-5:30. Boys varsity basketball tryouts are Thursday, March 10 from 3:00-5:30. The basketball season runs from the second week of March through the first week in May.

Coach Green is still looking for a volunteer girl's track coach. The girls in 5th-8th signed up for track season this week and we have 18 Mustangs ready to run but no coach. The season is fairly short and runs from the second week of March until Easter break. The running and relay meets are Saturdays, April 2 and April 9 at St Pete Catholic from 8:30-Noon. The field events are Thursdays March 31 and April 7 at Christ the King from 4:00-5:30. There will also be a cross-country meet the week of April 11-13. Practices are usually 2-3 days a week from 3:00-4:30. Volunteer coaches do receive credit for service hours for coaching.  Please contact Coach Green ASAP if you are interested in volunteering to coach the girl's track team.

Field Day is Thursday, April 7. Grades 5-8 will participate in the morning from 9:30-11:00 and grades K-4 will participate in the afternoon from 1:00-2:30. The students will participate in fun activities and challenges. I'm also hoping to get the obstacle course bouncy house like in years past. Coach Green is looking for parent volunteers to help with supervising and running the field day activities during both sessions. If you'd like to volunteer during your child's activity time that would really help. Service hours will be credited. Please contact Coach Green if you have an interest in volunteering at St Stephen Field Day 2022. ggreen@sscsfl.org
