We continue to celebrate Women’s History Month with a little March Madness news- Congratulations to one of our summer residents- Chris Dailey (left). Chris is a Rutgers graduate and for over 30 years Associate Head Coach of the UCONN women’s basketball team, who just advanced to the “sweet sixteen” by winning their first 2 games in the NCAA tournament. Up next -the Duke Blue Devils, this Saturday. Also, congratulations to Meg Barber (right) NYU women’s basketball Coach Meg Barber whose team WON their first DIII National Championship since 1997. They ended the season with a 31-0 record!!!
On Friday, March 22nd, Acting Borough Administrator Meredith DeMarco and I visited Brookdale Community College and participated in a Women’s History Month event- Women in Focus Empowerment and Achievement. Professor Jonathan Moschberger, MA,, Department Chair of the Political Science Department organized and hosted the event. Three current and former NJ Assemblywomen and a Peter Rodino Professor of Law from Seton Hall University (Paula Franzese- seated, top) were panelists. Students from Brookdale, along with Holmdel and Middletown South High School participated. A great wrap-up to this important month and topic!

A Very Important Annual Meeting- Third Graders visit:
Each year, I have the privilege to address the 3rd (March) and 8th (June) grade classes.
Last Friday, Ms. Pingitore and Ms. Silverstein brought eighteen members of the 3rd grade class to the Council Chamber. This is the first year students have civics/ government classes. We covered local government, state and federal roles, and explained specifically what local government means in Bradley Beach. Great job by ABA DeMarco, Captain Arnold, and Lieutenants Browning and Murray!

Main Street focus in 2024 |
Clarification on BIG NEWS - Community Project funding secured by Bradley Beach- $1,416,279!
We now have a compelling reason to get going.
Last fall, we worked with Senator Booker and Congressman Pallone’s respective staffs on 2 Community Funding Projects- one was for Sylvan Lake improvements and the other Main Street improvements. We were successful with the Main Street application. Improvements like brick pavers, streetlights, tree wells, benches, and corner configurations should be a focus. As I previously stated, we were awarded $1,416,279!! Congratulations to the teams that worked on this funding grant! More to follow. BIG THANKS TO SENATOR BOOKER AND CONGRESSMAN PALLONE and their STAFFS- great collaboration!!!
Stay tuned…….

Update- the Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) exciting news!!!
Almost 3 years ago we formed the Mayors Wellness Committee. In year 2 (2022), we submitted our application and were surprised to receive from the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute their “silver” status- A ”Healthy Town to Watch”. We were very happy to achieve this. Last year, we continued our journey to good health, and I am happy to report that for 2023 we have achieved “Healthy Town” designation. We were among 17 towns to achieve this. Being honored as a Healthy Town – the highest designation of the statewide Mayors Wellness Campaign – is a tribute to the committed efforts of everyone on our committee and for all the residents of our borough who join with us and participate in our programs. We are grateful for this recognition, which affirms that working to bring people together is the pathway to make us and our community healthier in body, mind, and spirit. I am so, so thankful and grateful to our community.
I want to congratulate our shore or Monmouth County Healthy Town recipients- Bay Head, Wildwood Crest, Asbury Park (repeat), and Freehold (repeat). Also, Stone Harbor, Brigantine, Atlantic City, Red Bank and Brick received “Town to Watch and Up and Coming Awards!
ZOOMING FOR WELLNESS-NEXT UP:
I am looking forward to our own Sgt. Josephine Celauro’s talk on how to prevent yourself against different types of scamming - from door knocks to phone scammers to venmo type scams. It will be broad ranging; but will provide practical and easy to absorb guidelines. Join us!!!

Volunteers help care for our Dunes
Last Friday we had the good fortune of having 18 middle school students from Eatontown plant American beachgrass on our Bradley Beach. Audrey Litto, Education Coordinator of The American Littoral Society coordinated this critical ongoing care.

Semi-Annual Fish Fry a big success!
Our Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary put on another wonderful community event that benefited both our Fire Company and as importantly, our residents. Hundreds filled the Fire House for great food and fellowship. Thanks to our Fire Department for their leadership and service!

Our Volunteers are doing it again- Golf Outing for the Bradley Food Pantry!
As many of you may know, the Bradley Food Pantry is on a continued journey to serve those dealing with food insecurity. They are currently in a search to relocate from their Fourth Avenue site (that they have operated in for 42 years); and are raising funds to help with this significant undertaking. A TEAM of VOLUNTEERS have taken on the task of raising $30,000 by putting on a Golf Outing. This is the essence of Bradley Beach- please participate!!!!
