Fondren Block Party: Chane in charge!
…..Fondren’s beloved First Thusdays are returning in May with a new branding: Fondren Block Party.
…..The event is presented by Fondren icon Chane, C-Spire, Fondren BID, Swell-O-Phonic, The Bean and participating Fondren merchants.
….May’s Block Party is slated for May 2, 5 - 9 p.m. and will focus on State Street with music from Fondren Guitars at Roosters, skate jam at Swell-O-Phonic, music and kid stuff at The Bean and Studio Chane’s free tees from the T-shirt cannon.
…..”We expect this event will grow organically into the other parts of the district as momentum builds, block by block,” said Chane.

…..Alex & Zander Boutique, 422 Mitchell Ave, will host a Julian & Juliet Jewelry Party on Saturday, May 4, noon - 5 p.m., featuring internationally published celebrity jewelry designer Brittney Brown. “Meet the designer while enjoying light bites, jazzy music, complementary wine and canvas painting,” says Boutique owner April Sade.

…..Fondren’s Brook Garden Club (aka Soil Sisters), spent their March meeting at The Cedars, pulling weeds and filling the dumpster with yard trimmings, fallen twigs and branches. They even went after some deadwood with a little chainsaw! “It was a good effort, and we thank the ones who were able to come and work,” said club president Caryn Quilter.

…..The Friends of the USA IBC will host the annual Kentucky Derby Party & Bluegrass Concert on Saturday, May 4, from 4:30-7:00 PM at the Kennington’s Mansion, 1020 Carlisle St, in the historic Belhaven neighborhood. The party will feature southern hors d’oeuvres, classic mint juleps, derby-inspired games, and music by The Accumulators. Tickets are $100, Young Professional Tickets (age 21-35) are $50. …..The Friends of the USA IBC provide support to the USA International Ballet Competition through fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. The Friends organization also strives to increase awareness of the USA IBC, provide an outlet for community involvement, and is a major benefactor of USA IBC CityDance, a program that provides free ballet lessons, dancewear, and other artistic opportunities to Jackson Public School students.
