HOLY WEEK
AN INVITATION TO PARTAKE AND PARTICIPATE
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
This weekend, on Palm Sunday, we enter into Holy Week. I am writing this note to invite and exhort you to partake and participate in the Holy Week. If you are a parent with minor children, kindly bring them so that they can celebrate it with the entire parish family. I encourage you to gently invite your family members and friends to join even if they are not Catholic. God’s profound love that we celebrate this week does not exclude anyone.
What does the word ‘holy’ mean? ‘Holy’ means dedicated or consecrated to God or set apart. We make this week ‘holy’ by setting apart some time to pray, reflect, and participate in community worship. So, I invite all of you to set apart some time to participate in the unfolding of the great mystery of God’s love.
What happens during Holy Week? On Palm Sunday, we commemorate Jesus’ humble entry (on a donkey) into Jerusalem to observe Passover. We have the blessing and procession of palms.
Maundy Thursday marks Jesus’ institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Maundy Thursday is accompanied by the washing of the feet. Good Friday commemorates Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross; it is traditionally a day of sorrow, penance, and fasting. Holy Saturday, also called Easter Vigil, is the traditional end of Lent. Easter Sunday is the celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection. The worship schedule is on the parish website and in the bulletin.
Fr. Gener and I look forward to the joy of celebrating this Holy Week with you and your family.
With blessings and love,
Fr. Saju
