Good Afternoon St. Stephen Families,

Our 7th graders are enjoying their visit to Nature's Classroom this week. This field trip is an excellent opportunity for hands-on experiences in science, developing cooperative learning skills, and building relationships with their peers.

Thank you to everyone doing a great job of selling raffle tickets. We are about three-quarters of the way to our annual fundraising goal! As our Spirit Raffle continues, please remember that each family is required to fundraise $200 this year through participation in the PTCO events. The re-enrollment letter sent in Jan. 2021 stated, "All families must contribute $200 in fundraising dollars (contributed through our 2 PTCO fundraising events – the walkathon and Spirit raffle) or pay an additional $200 in tuition." We have also sent reminders throughout the year. Any balance owed after the raffle will be billed to your FACTS account.

This year presented some challenges for us, and our staff worked to overcome each as it came. This week brought a new challenge as our music teacher, Mr. Feiler, resigned from his position to take a full-time job. His last day will be March 31. We all can appreciate the need for a full-time position, and unfortunately, we could not provide that. To fill this gap for the last two months of school, Ms. Kupec will be teaching an additional art class to grades 1-5, and middle school students will have an additional Flex period. During that time, some of the students will be helping in kindergarten with tutoring and center time, and Ms. Cuba will be doing social/emotional lessons during the Family Life periods. While this means we will not have a spring concert, Mrs. Stanley has offered to bring back her world-famous (ok, school-famous) talent show. This will take place on May 26 during the school day. More details about that will follow.

We continue to monitor Mass attendance for those who are parishioners and are receiving the Catholic parish tuition rate. To keep this rate, families will have to show that they attended Mass 75% of the time from January 1 through May 15 through the use of envelopes deposited in the baskets on the weekend. If you are out of town on the weekend, you may submit a bulletin from the church you attended with your name and envelope number on the front of the bulletin. Those families not attending Mass will be assigned the full tuition rate in May when finance agreements are finalized as the payments for next year begin in June. If you are registered at a different parish, we need a new parish verification form by May 15 to keep the Catholic parish rate.

Finally, learn more about how your child could receive a scholarship for the 2022-23 school year by joining the Step Up For Students interest list today.

Peace,

Linda Umoh

Last SVdP Can Drive of the School Year

Our SSCS families continue to help those in need as we begin our last SVdP food drive of this school year. Students can bring in donations beginning 3/28 through Friday Morning, 4/1. Please read the message below provided by the SVdP ministry leader, Denise Essex.

On average our St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Pantry serves 140 or more families a month which equals to an average of over 450 people! We serve all those in our community that relies on our pantry for help. We are a worldwide organization and in summary, the mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul encompasses every form of aid that alleviates suffering and promotes the dignity and self-respect of our fellow men and women.

The Society strives not only to alleviate need but also discover and redress the situations, which cause it, serving everyone regardless of creed, color, or national origin. A key strength of the Society is in the personalized delivery of help. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society’s work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the privacy and dignity of those that are served.

All perishable items are needed for the pantry such as peanut butter, granola and cereal bars, pasta, pancake mix and syrup, canned meats like canned hams and boxed potatoes!

We appreciate your support as we are able to serve so many because of you! SVdP is just the instrument for passing your generosity on to them.

BOYS BASKETBALL:  The boy's basketball teams are wrapping up their last week of just practice in preparation for games that start next week. The Mustang's first game is Tuesday against Villa Madonna here at St Stephen. The varsity plays at 4:00 and the JV at 5:15. The boys also have a game on Wednesday at Christ the King. Varsity plays at 4:00 and the JV at 5:15.

See the school website under Athletics for the complete girl's track meet and boys basketball game schedules.
