March is Women's History Month
A word from Ms. Felicia Vargas, the dynamic Capstone Coordinator at Siembra. We are proud to have her as a powerful female leader and influential role model:
March is Women’s Month, a month to honor and celebrate women. Looking back at history and thinking about the women who fought the right to vote in the suffrage movement and the abolitionists who continue to stand up and fight for the gender pay gap. The women who continue to advocate for us when there is a sexist and masochistic comment behind closed doors.
This month we pay a tribute to our abuelas, tias, mothers, cousins and friends who had fought bigotry and “baboso.” We thank you! Yes, we still have more work to do. To the generations Z and Alpha may you continue to use your privilege to protect those who are oppressed. I will never forget my family and the women who paved the way for my freedom now.
“My mother was a dominant force in our family. And I always saw her as the leader. And that was great for me as a young woman, because I never saw that women had to be dominated by men.” Dolores Huerta.
