Greetings, Tiger Family!

Spring is here, and the school year is moving “Full STEAM Ahead”. Last month, we celebrated significant contributions to Black culture with our outstanding Black History Program and Threads of Heritage Fashion Show with the PTC and 21st Century. Our Sweetheart Ball hosted by our PTC was a great time, and congratulations to the royal court of the ball!

This month, teachers are continuously focusing on providing quality instruction in the classroom to ensure we are building students' literacy and mathematical skills in Pre-K through 2nd grade.

In grades 3rd-6th, we are focusing on STAAR preparation and individualizing instruction for increased mastery of the TEKS.

We are Going for the Gold this testing season, as our STAAR Olympic-based review will begin after we return from Spring Break. Students in grades 3rd-6th will take the Reading Mock STAAR test on March 26th.

Student grades are due March 8th, and report cards go home March 22nd. Parents, check your scholar’s backpack daily to ensure your scholar is completing homework assignments.

Additionally, have discussions with your scholar(s) about what they are learning and encourage them to give 100% effort in each class.

Our district will host our Annual STEAM Day on March 8th for our 5th grade scholars. They will be able to engage in hands-on learning and STEM experiments. The Out of the Box College & Career Convention is on March 28th. Our 3rd-6th grade scholars will be able to learn about unique careers and professions.

Our campus has an open house information night on March 7th, showcasing our Fine Arts programs. We want to engage current and new parents interested in enrolling at RSPA for the 2024-2025 school year. Parents, please spread the word throughout the community about this amazing opportunity to see the great things happening at our campus.

We will have our 2nd Annual High Noon Tea on March 2nd, hosted by our former Nurse Aide, Ms. Perry. Last year, we created great memories with mothers and daughters. Please see the flyer below for more details.

How are we doing as a campus? We are looking for parent feedback on our Campus Improvement Plan. If you are interested in participating on the Campus Improvement Plan committee, please contact me at sakers@rhodesschool.org. The meeting will take place March 20th at 5 PM via Zoom.

Attendance matters and is a vital part of your scholar's success. Our motto is 98% is great. We are challenging the campus to get five days of perfect attendance for a fun-filled, campus-wide surprise.

As always, thank you for allowing us to invest in your scholar, and thank you for being a part of RSPA’s campus.

Growing Students with Excellence, Every Day!

Hello, Parents and Guardians,

This month we will focus on the topic of mental decompression. It’s one that a lot of people tend to lack awareness of. It’s about entering a mental and physical state that allows us to recharge our energy levels, reframe our thinking, and continue to perform.

I look forward to hearing and sharing beneficial interventions with you all. Don't forget to join me for Coffee with the Counselor at 9:00 AM on March 6th!

Take Care,

Tyesha Taylor, M.S.

March Tips for Maintaining a Spring Garden

If you have a plant with leaves turning brown, take half a teaspoon of baking soda or sugar, one cup of water mixed, and pour it into the plant. You should notice a difference within a week.

If you have a really full plant, the chances are the plant is root-bound. Remove the plant from its pot and cut half of the root ball off. Divide the plant into four equal parts, loosening the roots along the way. Now, instead of one plant, you will have four. You will put it in soil (fresh, loose soil that has a good pH). Water it once every four days, and you’ll have four healthy plants.

Testing Dates:

  • District-Based Assessments #3 are scheduled for Tuesday, February 27th, through Friday, March 1st.
  • Mock STAAR Testing in Reading for Grades 3-6 is scheduled for March 26th.

Attendance:

Attendance Matters Every Day! - TEXAS STATE LAW REQUIRES A WRITTEN EXCUSE FROM THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN WHENEVER A STUDENT IS ABSENT FROM SCHOOL.

To change an absence to an excused absence, a parent or doctor's note must be received in the attendance office no later than three days after the student returns to school. If a note is not received, the absence will remain unexcused (students who miss 10 or more school days may receive an attendance behavior contract and could be subject to compulsory attendance laws). A phone call does not take the place of a written note. Notes can be submitted to Mrs. Harsiton at shairston@rhodesschool.org.
