American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Training 

Learn lifesaving skills with our expert instructor! This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and other first-aid emergencies. Upon completion, a certificate that satisfies most OSHA-mandated job requirements, workplace, and other regulatory requirements will be issued (good for two years).  

WHEN: Friday, April 19 | 9 am – 1 pm 

Saturday, June 1 | 9 am – 1 pm

WHERE: Cedarwood Center | 2100 Hospital Dr., Sedro-Woolley

COST:  $100 (a discounted price of $80 is available for households receiving benefits such as Basic Food, WIC, Apple Health).

Parent Voices Needed!

Calling all parents with children from birth to age 5. Are you looking for ways to connect with other caregivers and support your child's development? Help Me Grow Skagit is exploring parenting classes and drop-in parent and child group offerings, and we need your input first! Your feedback is important to help tailor classes and groups to meet the needs and desires of our community.

Education for Local Medical Providers

Our Thriving Children & Families pillar offers a series of continuing medical education virtual programs in partnership with local healthcare providers. These courses help ensure providers have access to the most up-to-date resources on a variety of important topics. In the last session, participants expanded their skill sets to help create positive healthcare experiences for Latinx families.

The next event in the virtual series is Feeding Development: Sensory, Motor, and Behavioral Components on April 17 from 6-7pm. This course will discuss the various kinds of feeding difficulties that happen with toddlers and ways to identify how those difficulties might impact their developmental progress. Build Trails, No Experience Necessary

Wind and rain didn’t keep a record-breaking crew of 29 Skagit Trail Builders volunteers from participating in another great day building trails at Northern State Recreation Area last month. Folks of all ages helped develop a culvert site, widen and level the roughed-out trail, perform trail-side restoration, and spread ballast along the tree line to the Big Meadow on the Hill Creek trail. If you appreciate access to the natural wonders in our area, join a community of people working together towards a lasting positive impact. Fresh Veggie Pick-up in Sedro-Woolley 

Spring has sprung, and we are dreaming about all the fresh, local veggies and fruits that will be available in a few months! If you sign up for a Viva Farms Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share, you can enjoy convenient pick-up at the United General District 304 WIC clinic. Boxes start in June and will be available on Wednesdays from 1 – 4pm through November 21. We partner with Viva to make the CSA an option for our Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Program participants and to provide a site for SNAP/EBT customers to use their benefits. 

By joining the Viva Farms CSA, you directly contribute to beginning farmers’ success in building viable farm businesses while also eating affordable, healthy, local, and organic produce! This year, Viva is offering sliding-scale payment options and SNAP/EBT program. Click here for full details.

Beautiful Bouquets Support Students 

The 2024 Farm to School Donor Bouquet Share is available now! Sign up to receive eight weeks of beautiful bouquets, grown and arranged by Concrete High School students. Donations generated by the bouquet share directly support our work in the Concrete School District, ensuring that every student is connected to local food through garden and kitchen classes, connecting the cafeteria to farmers, and providing summer jobs for high school students. Plus, who doesn’t love a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to keep for themselves or to have at the ready as a gift? Sign up here!

Fourth Annual YOUth Got This! Summit 

The YOUth Got This! summit is an all-day gathering of young people from our five-county region (Skagit, Whatcom, Island, Snohomish, San Juan) coordinated by United General District 304! The fun and free event has opportunities to collaborate with peers, learn valuable team-building skills, and experience interactive sessions on leadership, healthy relationships, and conflict resolution. If you or someone you know works with teens in grades 7 – 9, let them know about this year’s event, happening on Wednesday, April 17 at Camp Korey on Lake McMurray in Skagit County. Click here for more information.

Mental Health Matters

Many of us experience mental health-related issues or have friends and family who do. District 304 is dedicated to promoting emotional, psychological, spiritual, and social well-being, which is why we’re hosting NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) at Sedro-Woolley High School April 9 at 3 pm. NAMI Skagit is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in Skagit County with mental illness and their families through support, education, and advocacy.
