Shanen Cox - Director of Programs and Outreach at the Veterans Council of Indian River County
The Veterans Council of Indian River County’s (VCIRC) mission is to support all Indian River County veterans and their families while raising awareness of veteran needs and their contributions to society. Programs include financial assistance, access to community resources, advocacy, assistance navigating the VA, and more- ultimately increasing the chances of sustainability post-crisis, the ultimate goal of our assistance. Irrespective of eligibility for financial aid, every veteran that reaches out to us is afforded personalized resources and guidance in navigating programs tailored to their unique circumstances. This holistic support model has proven highly effective, swiftly becoming the cornerstone of all veteran services applications at VCIRC.
This new program has had such resounding success that this year is our year for growth! We are excited to announce that we will be moving to our first ever standalone office space in the spring of 2024! This new space will allow us to have street front visibility on 14th Avenue in Vero Beach, making it easier for veterans and their families to find our office to seek assistance. Additionally, we are transitioning to a more sophisticated software program, Salesforce, that will allow us to serve the increased demand more efficiently and effectively.
Now, more than ever, we need the following:
- Community partners: Do you own a business that would benefit veterans in any aspect of their life? We want to help connect veterans to valuable community partners such as:
o Non-profit organizations with financial support programs or programs that assist with housing, employment, vehicle repairs, mental health support, etc.
o Businesses that are veteran owned and operated that are interested in hiring veterans or serving veterans at a discounted rate
o Home improvement/repair contractors that are veteran owned and operated that are interested in hiring veterans or offering discounted service for veterans that qualify for our home repair and maintenance program
- Volunteers:
o Front office staff greet veterans, and assist with basic administrative work (answering the phones, filing, directing messages to appropriate staff, etc.)
o Event staff for fundraiser committees and day-of support
- Case Managers:
o Are you looking for an exciting new career that makes a difference in the community? We will be looking to hire a few exceptional case managers to manage the increased demand!
- Grant manger/writer:
o If you have demonstrated ability to manage and write grant applications, and a passion to help veterans, we would love to meet you!
If you are interested in being a part of our organization in any way, whether is as a community partner, volunteer, interest in employment, or simply donating to a valuable cause, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
